Reports to: VDC Manager
Location: San Diego, CA
The VDC Engineer is responsible for the implementation, execution and tactical delivery of McCarthy's VDC/BIM Processes, Tools and Best Practices within the Division. The VDC Engineer reports to the Regional VDC Manager.
Develop and Perform model-based content for Self-Perform needs (Concrete, Structural Steel, Framing, etc.) as needed to support our overall business cases as a General Contractor.
Support VDC implementation opportunities during Pursuit and Preconstruction phases.
Responsible for aiding project personnel in the implementation of VDC processes and best practices on their projects through pro-active training, support and examples.
Project-level execution and delivery of VDC services and deployments across the Region.
Project-level execution of 3D Trade Coordination with Trade Contractors.
Project-level execution of laser scanning, processing and deliverables.
Creation and maintenance of in-house generated 3D models to aid constructability.
Support and implement laser scanning, drone and reality capture efforts at a project level
Coordinate and manage workload of VDC Interns and Co-Ops at a project-level.
Execution of the Regional VDC Processes and Technical Tools.
Participate in the development and implementation of Regional VDC goals and initiatives.
Conduct VDC tools/process training through various Regional training opportunities.
Conduct VDC tools/process training at the project-level for Engineers, Managers and Superintendents.
Track VDC implementation costs for each project through coordination with the VDC Manager.
Maintain, Evaluate and Report VDC Metrics to the VDC Manager.
Provide End-of-Project metric results and case studies.
Discuss and document VDC "lessons learned" and Verify/Confirm Concurrence.
BS in Civil/Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture is required.
Enjoys collaboration and working with others.
Experience with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD required.
Experience with Navisworks Manage and SketchUp preferred, but not required.
Experience with Concrete design preferred, but not required.
Experience creating high end 3D renderings preferred, but not required.
Familiarity with construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
Possesses strong technical skills, including experience with inserting sleeves, and imbeds.
Ability to work with people, have strong presentation skills and the ability to handle large amounts of information.
Some Regional travel required.
