Amazon Web Services is looking for a proactive, high energy, take ownership International Indirect Tax Manager, based in Seattle or San Francisco, to focus on VAT/GST. Amazon Web Services offers a complete set of infrastructure and application services to run virtually all aspects of a digital business in the Cloud. The International Indirect Tax Manager will be fully immersed within the AWS business team and support current and future AWS offerings, expansions, restructurings, audits and day to day questions.

The candidate must be comfortable directly liaising with various business teams within the company with an aim of gaining a deep understanding of the business vision and model in order to develop comprehensive tax solutions in support of the business, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions, and drive the implementation of the tax requirements.

The ideal candidate will primarily focus on indirect tax matters (VAT/GST) but also have a base knowledge of direct tax issues and how those can impact the business solution being articulated. The candidate will also work closely with other members of the global tax department to communicate current and future business plans, obtain cross functional tax subject matter input, and ensure coordination of cross functional tax solutions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Researching advanced international indirect tax issues - working with taxing authorities and outside advisers as necessary - as part of a tax team supporting business initiatives.

  • Understand billing and reporting systems and provide system and invoicing requirements related to changing tax laws or business operations.

  • Assist with developing and evaluating planning opportunities.

  • Assist with developing strategic and operational implementation work plans and ability to measure results against plans.

  • Build relationships with business teams and understand their business Assisting with managing relationships with outside tax consultants and regulatory authorities on an ongoing basis.

  • Maintaining and communicating knowledge of past, present and potential future tax laws, regulations, rulings, procedures and court decisions.

  • 7+ years of international indirect tax experience with a public accounting firm, major law firm, or in industry.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

  • Indirect tax experience in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Solid understanding of billing systems and interaction with indirect taxes.

  • Solid understanding of VAT/GST considerations for global and local sales of goods and services.

  • Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) or degree in law, taxation, or accountancy

  • Previous in-house experience within a multinational business

  • Accounting firm experience

  • Data analytics skills

  • Able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on milestone driven projects

  • Able to work in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment.
