The Vascular Sonographer is a skilled person qualified by technological education to provide patient services using diagnostic ultrasound under the supervision of a doctor of medicine responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures. Assist the physician by gathering vascular sonographic data necessary to reach diagnostic decisions. Performs related duties as assigned.
Performs consistent, accurate and readable Carotid, Venous, and Arterial imaging, Doppler and color flow.
Performs adequate imaging during vein mapping, pseudoaneurysm, graft and A-V fistula exams.
Performs adequate imaging during physiologic arterial, thoracic outlet, subclavian steal and digital exams.
Performs patient studies both in the department and portable/bedside.
Assist in intra-operative procedures.
Assists in room and patient preparation for special procedures (pseudoaneurysm compressions and injections).
Calculates accurate measurements on both 2-D and Doppler images.
Adjust controls and ultrasound equipment to maximize visualization of images.
Obtains pertinent clinical history from patient and medical records.
Fills out worksheets, prelims, digital reports and shift reports accurately.
Informs ordering physician and/or patient's nurse of any findings which may be of emergent nature.
Performs daily maintenance of equipment such as cleaning, proper transducer care and stocking of supplies.
Exercises appropriate precautions when dealing with critical ill patients.
Maintains adequate infection control measures / Observes universal precautions consistently.
Maintains current training levels for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate.
Wears clothing and hospital badge consistent wit dress code and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean well groomed appearance.
Participates in Quality Assurance reports.
Meets hospital attendance standards and is responsive to departmental staff needs.
Performs additional studies and duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and one of the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) prerequisites for education and required clinical experience.
Licensure: Requries a registry or registry eligible status with the ARDMS.
Certifications: Must have a current American Heart Association BLS Heartsaver Card or obtain within probationary period.
