PURPOSE OF POSITION

The primary purpose of this position is to obtain high quality images to assist in the diagnosis and or treatment of patients. To work effectively and efficiently in a busy lab.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Performs the following procedures: cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial duplex, segmental blood pressure and exercise testing, abdominal aortic duplex, renal artery duplex, impotence testing, venous insufficiency testing, vein mapping, dialysis graft duplex and other tests as determined by the Unit Director and Medical Director of the Vascular Lab.

  • Operates complex ultrasound equipment and other patient assessment equipment pertinent to department needs.

  • Use sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic images.

  • Follows protocols and can deviate from normal techniques when clinically necessary.

  • Prepares a preliminary report/summary of technical findings and reviews findings with unit director or interpreting physician when necessary. Relays preliminary findings and/or final reports to proper referring physicians or departments according to laboratory policy.

  • Communicates effectively and appropriately to all staff, managers and physicians.

  • Capable of working independently as well as cohesively with coworkers. Must represent self as a team leader and a role model to other sonographers in the department.

  • Keeps up to date in the field of ultrasound and vascular technology by reading and/or attending conferences for continuing medical education credits.

  • Utilizes downtime efficiently by restocking rooms, cleaning ultrasound equipment and work area, etc.

  • Assists in the orientation of new staff members and assists in the teaching of vascular students.

  • Must be self-motivated, responsible, and capable of working with limited supervision within the guidelines set by the supervisor.

  • Adheres to hospital policies of time and attendance.

  • Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patient, employees, hospital and physicians.

  • Makes appropriate recommendations and/or participates in the implementation of change in order to improve overall quality of service.

  • Creates and fosters a work environment that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Aultman Health Foundation.

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a vascular lab is preferred.

  • Graduate from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program (2-4 years) with 1 full additional year of full-time clinical experience in a vascular lab.

  • Holds and maintains current valid licensure related to vascular ultrasound. Or maintains appropriate licensure within 1 year of hire date.

  • RVT (registered vascular technologist) by the ARDMS (active status).

  • V.S. (ARRT) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.

  • RVS (registered vascular sonographer) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International.

  • Must have adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes.

  • Posses' tact and sympathy necessary in dealing with patients and fellow employees.

  • Good attendance record with infrequent absentee and tardiness.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Varied shifts from 6:00am
  • 7:00pm M-F, occasional weekends from 7:00am

  • 6:00pm (Saturday), 8:00am

  • 6:00pm (Sunday) and occasional holiday on-call from 8:00am

  • 6:00pm.

  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.

  • Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours.

  • Coordinated lunch periods within the department to maintain adequate staffing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ADDENDUM

PURPOSE: The position requires holding prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning all types of vascular examinations. Involves some lifting of patients, moving of heavy equipment on wheels (up to approximately 500 lbs), and moving patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Job requires good emotional and physical health sufficient for requirements and demands.

O = Occasionally = 0- 33% of the work shift or 0- 32 repetitions.

F = Frequently = 34-66% of the work shift or 32-200+ repetitions.

C = Constantly = 67-100% of the work shift or 200+ repetitions.

N = Not essential job requirement.
