Portland'5 manages the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Keller Auditorium, and Antoinette Hatfield Hall in downtown Portland, Oregon. We're looking for skilled, dedicated, motivated people who are excited to put in the elbow grease to care for these wonderful buildings.

Event Housekeepers/Custodians are responsible for tasks that are essential to providing a memorable experience for our guests and community members, by ensuring that our venues are safe and welcoming.

This position is responsible for assuring that restrooms, lobbies, and other public/non-public areas are clean, orderly and properly maintained. Other duties include set-up for events, including tables, chairs, draperies, sound systems, portable stages, etc. Event Custodians/House Keepers work under the direction of the Portland'5 Operations Supervisor.

As the VHE Event Housekeeper/Custodian, you will

  • Assure that all public and non-public areas are clean, orderly, and properly maintained both during events and non-event operations.

  • Use a variety of methods to disinfect and sanitize surfaces and touch-points, including using approved protocols to mitigate viral infection.

  • Properly clean and put away tools and equipment after use.

  • Clean and maintain restrooms and dressing rooms: Re-stock paper towels, toilet paper, and soap; sweep and mop floors; clean sinks, mirrors, counters, toilets, and urinals; clean and maintain custodial closets.

  • Clean glass in windows and doors.

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum various flooring surfaces.

  • Collect trash and recycling in and around the venues.

  • Set up tables, chairs, draperies, and other event support items as required.

  • Maintain supply rooms to documented team standards.

  • Respond to requests for additional services for guests, clients, and staff.

  • Provide directions and other general assistance to the public.

  • Report safety hazards, maintenance and repair items.

Attributes for success

  • Perform repetitive motions of hands and wrist.

  • Stand, bend, squat, stretch, lift, and walk during shift.

  • Properly wear vacuum backpacks for long periods of time.

  • Walk up and down stairs safely.

  • Push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 150 pounds occasionally.

  • Read and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Operate a variety of custodial equipment safely and efficiently with training.

  • Use a variety of cleaning chemicals safely and properly with training.

  • Use technology, such as smartphones, radios, and computers.

  • Safely clean up bodily fluids and other potentially infectious materials with training.

  • Work in a professional manner with the public, clients, and co-workers.

  • Adapt to new methods, processes, and procedures as required.

  • Appropriate identification and response to areas requiring special attention.

  • Work independently and with minimal supervision.

  • Work quickly, efficiently, and consistently.

  • Report to assigned location on time and ready to work.

TO QUALIFY

Minimum qualifications

  • One year of experience in facility cleaning or janitorial work; OR

  • Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

  • Must have availability to work an event-driven schedule, mostly nights, weekends and some holidays.

  • Willingness to complete structured training and obtain industry certifications as required.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATON

The hourly rate for this position is step # 1, $22.78 per hour. Swing shifts receive a premium of $1.50 per hour in addition to the regular hourly rate.

This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by IUOE 701-1 and is classified as an Event Custodian (click to read the full classification).
