SUMMARY:

The Van Driver is responsible for the scheduling and coordination of resident community appointments, and the arranging and scheduling transportation to the bus station, DSHS, health services appointments, and when available, appointments requested by case management. This position supports the Residential/Treatment Division of Pioneer Human Services by ensuring the provision of quality and cost effective chemical dependency services

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transportation

  • Responsible for arranging and scheduling transportation to the bus station, DSHS, appointments requested from health services, and appointments requested from case management when available.

  • Ensures that each resident requiring transportation receives safe transportation, and understands the purpose for all departments.

  • Coordinates transportation services for all departments.

  • Transport clients to and from Social Security office.

Communication and Teamwork

  • Maintains working relationship with community service providers.

  • Develops additional community resources when necessary

  • Serves as an information liaison to DSHS, health care providers, and courts.

  • Maintains communication with departments related to each individual appointment.

  • Promotes and models teamwork and collaboration with co-workers.

Transport for other PHS facilities

  • Helps out with transfers to regional PHS programs as scheduling allows.

Performs other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: {Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience}

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Washington State driver's license and driving record acceptable to company's insurance carrier if using a company vehicle.

  • Must be able to obtain Agency Affiliated Counselor (WAC 246-810-015, and RCW 18.19.210) within 60-days from the date of hire.

  • Attend Pioneer Human Services Defensive Driving Course.

  • Experience working in residential treatment, or working with individuals with multiple co-morbid conditions.

  • The Van Driver must be sensitive, receptive, and mature enough to be neither upset by the residents, nor cause the residents further adjustment difficulties.

  • The Van Driver must be able to make positive use of professional supervision, function effectively in an interdisciplinary team approach, and participate in, and profit from in-service and on-the job training.

  • The Van Driver must maintain an attitude toward interactions with residents that is objective, free from personal bias; one that allows for perspective and flexibility in observing groups and individual behavior patterns.

  • Current First Aid and CPR training or complete within first 30 days of hire

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Must wear safety protective equipment as required (i.e., safety glasses, gloves, and foot protection)

  • Ability to sit or stand continuously for up to 8-12 hours per day

  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and reach out and above shoulders

  • Ability to be awake and alert to meet clients' needs during work hours

  • Ability to go up and down stairs

Work Setting: Work is performed indoors or in vehicle. Schedule (i.e. hours and days): Schedule may vary due to client and program needs. Tools & Equipment: Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.) Ability to use MSWord, Email, cleaning equipment including spill kit., copy machine, computer. Client Interactions: Will have direct contact with: detoxifying clients, disoriented or delusional clients, angry and fearful clients, behaviorally acting out residents
