CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: VAN DRIVER - TRANSIT

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to operate a van to transport citizens to various destinations throughout the County. Assists in monitoring the operating condition of vans.

Performs routine maintenance on vans.

Prepares required reports and documents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Operates a van to pick up and transport citizens to various locations throughout the County; assists patrons getting on and off the bus or van; operates wheel chair lift and ensures wheel chairs are properly secured.

Performs preventive maintenance checks on vans including oil change intervals, fueling, tire rotation and replacing, and repair needs as required to maintain a safe operating vehicle; cleans interior and exterior of vans as needed; drives a van to repair shop when needed.

Maintains trip record, mileage and preventive maintenance logs; prepares monthly transportation reports.

Accepts money from patrons; maintains records of same.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Basic literacy and mathematical skills used in following instructions; communicating with co-workers and the general public; and, performing basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to start, stop, operate and monitor the functioning of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out detailed but routine written or oral instructions. Involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by well established procedures or sequences.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Tasks may require exposure to such environmental conditions as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, and traffic hazards.
