Under general supervision, to operate a City passenger car or van for the demand-response service.

Examples of Duties: Perform light vehicle maintenance, as required; to assist elderly and disabled riders; and to perform related work as required.

Typical Qualifications:


  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a good driving record;

  • Possession of a current standard First Aid Certificate within thirty (30) days of hire;

  • Possession of a current CPR Certificate within thirty (30) days of hire.



  • Education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for

successful job performance.


  • Three (3) years of licensed experience in the operations of motor vehicles.

  • One (1) year of work experience driving involving the transportation of passengers or the delivery of goods.


  • Experience assisting elderly and/or disabled.

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledgeable of provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the

operation of vehicles in transporting citizens.

Ability to:

  • Safely operate a public transit vehicle; be comfortable with physical limitations of the aged

and disabled; communicate with citizens having oral and auditory disabilities; carry out

oral and written instructions; maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the

course of work; be physically able to lift, carry and/or push 75 pounds on a regular basis

and operate a mobile radio for the purpose of receiving and dispatching calls for service.

Selection shall be made from those applicants who submit a complete application, supplemental questionnaire, meet the position requirements, receive a passing score on an initial application screening and receive a qualifying score on an oral interview, weighted 100%. Candidates will be required to obtain standard First Aid and CPR certifications at their expense. As determined by the City and at the City's expense, successful candidates shall be required to complete and pass a medical examination, a drug/alcohol screen and a background investigation. Possession of a valid California driver's license and good driving record will be required prior to hire. Proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.
