Van Driver Hourly Pay $15.00
Days: Monday
Hours: 8:00 a.m.
Definition: Drive a senior van and transport the elderly around town to various activities.

Tasks:
Driving the senior citizens van.
Assist answering the telephone when needed.
Plan routes to accommodate several passengers to conserve gas.
Must maintain van at all times - monitoring oil, gas, battery, tires, keeping the van clean, etc.
Assist senior citizens in entering and leaving van.
Assist and cook for center activities.
Other tasks and duties in related work not outlined here, but may be required, as designated by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Other Characteristics:
Must be responsible and sensitive to the needs and physical well being, of all the passengers at all times and work well with older people.
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of commercial transportation in New Mexico.
Knowledge of the name and locations of streets in the City of Artesia and surrounding area.
Ability to communicate using two-way radio.
Knowledge of municipal and state ordinances and laws concerning operation of a motor vehicle.
Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
Document all efforts toward van maintenance and mileage etc.
Document all services provided to elderly through transportation service.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with senior citizens, other staff and the public.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is beneficial.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Most possess and maintain a New Mexico Driver License.
Must successfully complete an approved defensive driving course within sixty (60) days of hire.
Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.
Ability to travel overnight as required.
Demonstrated experience in operating a multi passenger (15 or more) vehicle
Defensive driving course and first aid class preferred.
Bilingual preferred.
Physical Functions:
Sit for long periods of time.
Drive to various locations throughout the City daily.
Lifting objects such as tables and chairs.
Working Conditions:
Majority of work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
Worker is exposed to intermittent noise and vibration factors.
Worker is exposed to fumes from various cleaning solutions, odors from same solutions, and dust while performing cleaning duties.
Indoor duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tiled.
Worker is required to use stepladder.
Work surface for indoor duties may be dry or wet.
Worker works alone primarily, with written instructions.
Worker sometimes works as part of a select team.
Potential hazards of the job include use of cleaning equipment and grounds keeping equipment such as a buffer, climbing a ladder, working on wet or slippery surfaces.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
