The Validation Engineer is a reliable internal resource for product knowledge regarding testing and industrial standards. This role is part of the Validation Lab team, including Lab Technicians, other Engineers, and the Lab Manager. The Validation Engineer partners with Product Engineers and lab team to help develop test plans and tests that are reliable and effective, to ensure ODL launches robust products into the marketplace.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinates Lab Database operations in FileMaker.
Develops and designs test fixtures.
Provides Reliability and Confidence data, using statistical tools.
Develops and documents new test methods, while maintaining current test methods.
Performs testing and records data as required.
Assists Product Engineers in the development of Design Verification Plan and Reports (DVP&Rs).
Creates and approves lab reports; verifies collected test data for completeness and accuracy.
Assists in analyzing and interpreting test data to help resolve design related issues.
Participates in Failure analysis using Sound engineering skills.
Assists in coordinating continuous conformance and competitive product testing.
Assists in tracking and maintaining equipment calibration.
Contributes to the continuous improvement of lab procedures and operations.
Travels to outside labs to observe and/or coordinate testing.
Trains lab technicians on lab equipment and procedures.
Candidate Requirements:
BS in Engineering or another technical field.
Experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word).
Ability to learn, adapt and apply new insights; eager to innovate.
Passion for breaking things to understand failure modes.
Good problem solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Mechanical Proficiency
Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on data and statistics. Ability to deliver accurate, high-quality analysis.
Ability to know when to challenge appropriately to gather needed data.
Ability to balance multiple priorities. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks on time.
Ability to rise above circumstances and take ownership for achieving desired results.
Ability to collaborate with team members to achieve optimal results.
Ability to lift/maneuver up to 100 pounds.
Ability to follow safety standards and policies.
Candidate Preferences:
Three years of testing/lab experience
Knowledge of fenestration or other building products
Six Sigma Green Belt
Knowledge of Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R)
Basic programming skills
