Eaton's ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a V2X Firmware Engineer. This role is located at our facility in Peachtree City, GA and offers relocation to those residing in the U.S.

The Connected Solutions team is expanding its portfolio of Electric Vehicle-to-Home and Electric Vehicle-to-Grid (V2X) systems and are looking for experienced talent who can help lead and directly participate in developing embedded firmware code and system software for a variety of V2X applications.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $91500.03 - $134200.04 a year.

What you'll do:

Our V2X Firmware Engineer is responsible for coding, testing, system integration and certification of our range of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) solutions, both at the component level and at the complete system level. The V2X team develops electronic hardware, firmware, software, APIs, mobile applications, and multiple electrical power management systems designed to interface with electric vehicle OEMs, electric utilities, plus customer types including home owners, site owners and third-party integrators.

This role works collaboratively to enable the application and integration of Eaton's V2X solutions as part of Eaton's and our customer's systems. This individual will also act as a bridge between external partner and internal technical component plus platform teams by developing firmware/software codes which bring together integrated electric power management components in creative ways to solve key customer problems.

In this function you will:

  • Develop, test and deploy EV V2X embedded control system firmware and system software into a variety of V2H and V2G functional prototypes and commercial solutions which span from components to cloud integrations.

  • Create product requirements and specifications for each V2X system including architecture and componentry, write and document code according to industry and Eaton best practices while ensuring compliance to regulatory compliance standards and cybersecurity requirements.

  • Conduct code simulations, regression testing and physical testing of initial prototype systems and final production designs in an agile, rapid, and iterative process with reports to stakeholders and in adherence to the product development timelines.

  • Create thorough documentation for engineering teams, customer technical support and end-user support. Also provides technical assistance to internal and external customers.

  • Analyze and solve problems by driving to root cause and deploying appropriate improvements in a timely manner to firmware code and software across our multiple V2X systems and applications.

  • Stay current with the latest V2X and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) technologies and regulatory standards in relation to utility demand management & DER integration as well as Electric Vehicle Charging.

  • Collaborate with core engineering faculties to synchronize product design and manufacturing efforts with established and new system deployments.

  • Identify & communicate risks related to the design, development, implementation, and support of the V2X subsystems and/or its integration with other systems/subsystems; works with the team to prioritize, develop, and execute mitigations & contingency plans.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic, Computer Engineering/Technology or Computer Science from an accredited institution

  • Three (3) years experience developing and deploying firmware/software into platforms of cloud connected, scalable and reliable system architectures for IoT products, V2X systems, power/energy management products, battery management systems, EVSE chargers and/or similar electrical system product

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highly proficient software coding skills in one or more high level language or script (C/C++, Java, Python or Linux Shell) from embedded devices to cloud-based systems

  • Master's in Electrical or Computer Engineering/Technology from an accredited institution

  • 5+ years system level firmware and software code development experience; developing and translating business cases to solution requirements and architecture documentation

  • Experience deploying products into residential power systems

  • Experience consumer facing electronics and/or software interfaces

  • Experience with electrical utility programs and communication

  • Experience with V2X and or EVSE/vehicle communications

  • Experience developing & deploying HEMS (Home Energy Management System), DER (Distributed Energy Resource) systems, back-up power systems, microgrid systems, EV Charging

  • Experience with UL and NEC regulatory standards and electrical codes for circuit protection

  • Microsoft Azure products and application to IoT system development using agile methodologies

Skills:

  • RTOS and Linux OS firmware developments and creating test plans plus executing test plans

  • Organize and follow thru with high accuracy and efficiency, participate in a highly-collaborative team product development environment, and flex across multiple detailed and broad subject matters

  • Teach technical plus product concepts and to convey complex topics appropriately tailored to audience
