Position Description

Our UX practice operates as an internal agency. The work is fast-paced, and large in scope; the perfect opportunity for anyone who thrives on collaborating to create innovative digital applications that reach millions of customers transacting billions of dollars worldwide. The work demands a healthy respect for the contributions of each of these disciplines, and a solid understanding of how visuals play a supporting role in a user-centered design methodology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute high quality web design for all the business's web properties under the direction of the Visual Design manager

  • Ideation, design and preparation of digital assets for web and app construction

  • Adherence to design standards and brand guidelines

  • Work closely with content management, usability, and presentation architecture to develop designs that address business objectives and meet the standards of the site design and user experience team

  • Will combine creative concepts and design with digital consumer technologies to create innovative site designs, marketing, presentations and motion graphics for all of the business's web properties, with emphasis on channel services (e.g., search, help, authentication, chat, etc.).

  • Should have a bold vision for excellence in web design and will work closely with web usability, content management, technology, marketing and LOB leaders to create a unified, customer driven design direction.

  • Must be highly innovative and inspire commitment to a higher standard.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Solutions oriented with the ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to changing requirements and conditions

  • Partner across related disciplines including, usability, content management and web development to meet the objectives of every business engagement.

  • Mentor other Senior and Junior Visual Designers

  • Strong competency in responsive and adaptive strategies for multi-form factor web design

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years experience as a Web Designer at a major agency, retail or financial services institution or large ecommerce site.

  • Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator

  • Experience developing interactive prototypes of own design concepts

  • Experience in an e-commerce, media, or start-up environment with short interval release cycles

  • Best-practices knowledge of WC3 and other web design standards

  • Excellent understanding of usability/user centered design, UX methodology, interactive design principles, and corporate branding

  • Must be highly innovative and inspire commitment to a higher standard

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Solutions oriented with the ability to multi-task and adapt quickly to changing requirements and conditions

  • The ideal candidate should have experience designing, developing and programming interactive digital user interfaces

Scope/Dimensions:

Scope of accountability for Senior Web Designer may include--but is not limited to--interface design for storefront and authenticated areas of ally.com and its affiliated sites & digital applications (e.g., smartphone/tablet apps); social media; print and digital advertising; corporate branding; email marketing; production and maintenance of enterprise design style guides

Education and certification requirements:

Bachelor Degree. Minimum: 5 years experience in web design, graphic design, usability or related field

Technical Capabilities & Department Specific Accountabilities:

Identify, recommend, implement, and support innovative, accessible, cost-effective design solutions for Ally Financial web properties. Partner across the team and organization to lend design support usability, content management, marketing, presentation architecture, web application development and vendor managed solutions. Experience in an e-commerce, media, or start-up environment with tight release cycles. Best-practices knowledge of WC3 and other web design standards. Excellent understanding of usability/user centered design, email marketing standards, interactive design principles, and online branding issues.
