The UVA Career Center engages and supports students in the discovery and pursuit of meaningful lives. We are seeking a Career Fellow, a two-year appointment particularly appropriate for those pursuing a career in Student Affairs in a higher education setting.

Career Fellows in the UVA Career Center (UCC) provide a variety of services including, but not limited to, student-facing engagement, administrative support, and event planning/staffing. The Career Center's three-fold strategy of exploration, connection and experiential learning requires all team members to be adept at direct student service, program development and execution and developing alumni and employer connections for students. Direct service delivery includes individual career and small group support, large group presentations, programs and workshops. Industry and career community research, outreach and programming are also significant parts of the position. This individual will perform other office and University duties as assigned. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Responsibilities include:

Student Facing Engagement

  • In collaboration with Career Counselors, Career Fellows will assist undergraduate students by providing guidance and feedback on resumes and cover letters and sharing general information about navigating the Career Center. Proactively engages students with major and career exploration, Career Communities, and internship and job search information.

  • Supports scheduling, training, and leadership development of Career Educator Program (CPE). Contributes to outreach events including Summer Orientation and events for CIOs and student leaders.

Administrative Support

  • Administrative responsibilities include event planning and tracking, technology/platform support, and stakeholder communication. Support of events may contribute to marketing efforts. The Career Fellow will work independently on assigned projects to support stakeholder requests.

  • Act as a liaison between students, staff, faculty, employers and alumni by drafting professional correspondence, posting student and alumni internship and job announcements, distributing specific program information, and coordinating schedules, space reservations, and calendars when appropriate.

  • Update external website and internal intranet sites by compiling significant information, key dates, and upcoming events related to students and staff.

Event Planning

  • Assist in event planning for large and small events such as pop-up advising, dissemination of career development and industry-specific information, experiential learning programs, and special populations.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. This is a full time, benefited, two-year, exempt-level position located in the UVA Career Center in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium with an annual salary of $44,000 and full benefits . Benefits package highlights include:

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.

  • Experience: At least two years of experience in a higher education setting (involvement as an undergraduate student considered).

  • UVA Alumni Preferred.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
