Pay Rate: $16.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30-4:30 This position can offer Part-Time hours, however, prefers someone who can work Full-Time hours.

Job Length: Approximately 10 months

Our departmental drive is centered around supporting the campus' mission and vision through providing reliable and safe transportation for UT-related travel while overseeing the entire cradle to grave process associated with UT-owned vehicles.

These tasks include:

• Vehicle sourcing and purchasing

• New vehicle inspections

• Servicing

• Repair

• Fuel management

• Telematics management

• Roadside assistance

• Documentation management

• Eventual surplus

As a University Service Center, we also recover all our expenses through fee-generated services including monthly lease charges, daily rental charges, and shop labor recoveries which are assessed against UT departments. We are a streamlined operation with less than ten full time employees who are managing over 550 assets (including a 75-vehicle rental fleet) and supporting thousands of reservations per year for UT business-related travel while maintaining a budget under $3m per year. Our operation includes a service shop, onsite fuel island, vehicle wash bay, parking lot for 100 assets, and daily rental fleet with 24/7 access.

Position details:

This position will work in our onsite service location on campus to provide high quality vehicle repair and servicing to the University fleet. This position currently would work with two other technicians, a Tech Supervisor, and a Shop Coordinator towards that goal. Our department operates when the campus is open Monday-Friday (7:30am-4:30pm). Maintaining or earning ASE certifications is highly encouraged. We supply all tools required to maintain our fleet in addition to supplying uniforms and a boot allotment. This is a great environment to learn and practice new technician skills, as well as a stable employment option for those looking for a salaried position versus the daily flat-rate pressure of a for-profit repair location.

Position requirements:

• Ensuring proper inspection and repair of all vehicles assigned to the University of Tennessee in accordance with OEM specifications.

• Complete various routine preventative maintenance tasks on vehicles including (but not limited to):

• Oil changes

• Tire changes/rotations

• Brake pad and rotor replacements

• New vehicle check in procedures

• Vehicle retirement procedures

• Assist with parts and vehicle pick-ups

• Complete roadside assistance requests on campus

• Complete mid-level diagnostic and repair work for various repairs including

• HVAC troubleshooting

• Steering component troubleshooting

• Suspension component troubleshooting

• Assist with occasional routine part ordering and reconciliation

• Ensuring proper UT vehicle documentation is included in vehicles

• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment

• Assist with fleet software to ensure proper record keeping

• Assist with high quality customer experiences including occasional ticket-writing tasks

• Occasional manual hand washing and vacuuming of vehicles

• Any other tasks as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to legally operate fleet vehicles of varying sizes in tight spaces

• Ability to learn how to effectively and safely complete preventative maintenance on vehicles

• Ability to quickly learn and understand software that is heavily utilized to complete tasks

• Ability to physically operate, inspect, service, and clean vehicles including exterior and interior

Position summary:

This role is critical to the success of the department and will work with the shop team to ensure prompt and routine service for UT assets. This position reports directly to the Shop Coordinator. A successful candidate will exemplify the drive for continuing improvement of personal and departmental processes. Comfort with utilizing various software to complete tasks will be important to their success. Quality customer service will be a natural part of who they are as a person. We're looking for a part-time to full-time position over the next year for a vehicle service tech. This individual is preferred to have formal training and/or work experience working in a shop environment, but we're willing to talk that out with any interested applicant. We predominately service light duty sedans, vans, and SUVs. We also maintain medium and some heavy duty equipment to a lesser degree. Uniforms and a boot allowance will be offered. We prefer 40 hours, but are willing to offer less hours.
