Responsibilities and Qualifications

Provides referral, authorization, medical review, and case management services for members covered through Mercy Managed Behavioral Health. Assists with quality improvement program and the integration of QI processes into Medical Management as assigned.

  • Education: Registered Nurse or Masters in Social Work (MSW), Counseling (LCSW or LPC) or Psychology.

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse, LCSW, LPC, or Psychologist.

  • Experience: At least two years post license direct clinical experience in behavioral health setting and prior utilization management experience is strongly preferred.

  • Other: Broad Knowledge of mental illness/substance use diagnosis and treatment protocols required.

  • Preferred Other: Computer skills required.

Plans, coordinates, and implements the education activities of the Surgical Services Department. Fucntions within the limiits of the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, St. Luke's Hospital and Patient Care policies and practice guidelines. Priniciple Accountabilities: % of Time Spent 1. Maintains the ability to perform the role of staff registered nurse meeting all performance criteria established of the unit. 2. Plans, coordinates, and directs the educational activities of the department of Surgical Servicse under the supervison of the Director. 60% 3. Provides appropriate leadership and supervision of staff and promotes an environment in which staff can work effectively and cooperatively. Communicates the appropriate departmental as well as hospital and company information to staff through monthly department staff meetings, sharing administration memos when appropriate, inter-office memos/communication. etc. 40% 4. Facilitates and ensures communication among team members and procedures and overseeing students, visitors and orientees. Facilitates and ensures communication among team members and other Hospital teams. 5. Maintains awsaremness of employee performance problems and manages their resolution in an effective manner, ensuring expected standards of performance are communicated to the employee. Provides performance evaluations of staff with the appropriate time frame. 6. Serves as a liaison to all hospital departments and staff to maintain a safe and efficient environment for patients, visitors, and staff. 7. Performs administrative duties such as assisting with scheduling, assigning staff to rooms, and assisting the charge nurse with day to day operations of the Operating Room. 8. Actively participates on various committees relative to own unit functions and responsibilities, and/or cross-department/service performance assissment and improvement activities as requested or appropriate. 9. Collaborates with the Director to assist in meeting operational needs, and facilitates the implementation of planned changes in the department. 10. Maintains an awareness of high volume, high risk and problem areas. Develops and maintains ongoing quality improvements within the unit involving appropriate staff memebers, reporting results and utilizing the results to determine appropriate course of action. 11. Assist the director in preparing and developing departmental policies and procedures. 12. Assumes the responsibility for the day to day running of the OR schedule, assuring that cases are scheduled accurately at the appropriate times and in the appropriate rooms. Reviews upcoming schedules to determine any possible instrumentation or equipment conflicts. 13. Supervises non-clinical staff. Provides training and input into performances evaluations and performance management. 14. Provides ongoig in-services, and in-services for all new products and or procedures. Assists with orienting new surgeons to the department, maintaining documentation as required by the hospital. 15. Assists with Resident education to Surgical Services procedures and practices. May be asked to assist with house-wide education for processes involving the Surgical Services Department. 16. Performs other duties as assigned. Total 100% Education Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri Required. BSN required. AORN membership required. CNOR Certification preferred. Experience 5 years of experience in Surgical Services Leadership skills necessary for management activities. Evaluative skills necessary for patient assessment. Decision making skills required for treatment planning/implemenation. Clinical reasoning and judgment skills necessary for evaluation of nursing interventions and for safety of patients and self. Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with patients, visitors and staff. Ability to recognize a need for and alter communication with patients with communication impairments. Abilty to manager time, organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards and cope with professional stress.
