Hiring Range: $21.60 to $27.00
Pay Grade: 106

Full Pay Range: $21.60 to $32.40

Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Wastewater Collection Supervisor(s), the ideal candidate will join a team of professionals performing Wastewater Collection daily operations & maintenance tasks.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position performs tasks related to the Wastewater Collections unit within the Utilities Division of the Public Works Department.
Essential Duties:
Inspect, maintain and repair the sanitary sewer collection system to ensure safe and efficient operation; inspect sewer lines, manholes, and lift stations.
Operate a variety of complex sewer line cleaning equipment, including hydro-cleaners and other related equipment to remove debris from sewer lines and wet wells.
Utilize hand tools, jack hammers, whackers, digging bars, shovels and other related tools or equipment as required.
Inspect sewer line cleaning equipment, power tools, hand tools, vehicles, and other large equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Perform confined space entries; provide quality customer service to address citizen complaints or problems, provide requested information, and/or take the appropriate measure to ensure an expedient resolution of citizen satisfaction.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate will have wastewater experience or a minimum of one (1) year full time journey level construction, maintenance, or equipment operation.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or must obtain within six (6) months of hire date. Must possess an ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Collection System Operator certification or obtain within one (1) year of hire date. Must be able to perform emergency standby duty on a rotational basis and work overtime as needed, including nights, holidays, and weekends.

Skill in operating and maintaining a variety of specialized equipment used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater systems.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to safely use tools and equipment.

Ability to use personal protective equipment.
Ability to work in hazardous conditions including sewage, potentially infectious wastes, methane, hydrogen sulfide, and other possible toxic gases and substances.
Physical Demands And Working Conditions:
Sufficient to effectively perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicles as needed.
Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person, over the radio and by telephone.
Must possess ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and capable of lifting 60 pounds frequently with a maximum of 100 pounds
Job hazards present may include adverse weather conditions, confined space, high traffic areas, exposure to raw sewage, chemicals, rotating equipment, hydrogen sulfide, noise, high-medium-low voltage, oxygen deficient and hazardous environments.
