We have an outstanding opportunity for a Utility Worker 2.

Under the direction of the supervisor and lead, perform semi-skilled work in constructing, maintaining or repairing buildings, facilities, utility tunnels, sewer systems, grounds and equipment. This position will work Monday

  • Friday 7:00am

  • 3:30pm.

This position is designated as one that performs an essential service. This means that the position's incumbent must continue to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction work on buildings, fixtures, equipment, grounds, walks, and driveways

Set up and move furniture. Construct simple items such as cabinets and bookshelves. Perform routine repairs to locks, floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, stairs, and surfaces.

Perform general repairs on plumbing and electrical fixtures

Assist in removal and installation of ceiling tiles necessary to access mechanical and electrical equipment such as fan coil units.

Independently remove and clean ductwork, grills, grates and vents. Install air filter media, pleated paper and roll & bag air filters.

Clean, service, adjust, and make repairs on tools and equipment; Operate power tools and equipment, such as drill motors and power screwdrivers, electric and gas engine driven compressors, mowers, power washers, snow plows and portable pumps;

Operate motorized equipment such as automobiles, trucks, including dump trucks, forklifts, small tractors and front-end loaders, street cleaning equipment, trailers

Load and unload trucks and move furniture, equipment, supplies and materials; assemble new furniture;

May set up for events and return site to original condition;

Set up workstations from a variety of elevated positions using ladders, personnel lifts, and scaffolding.

Clean and maintain shop areas, work site, and storage areas.

Keep lead and supervisor informed of project status and work progress, required project materials and equipment.

Communicate and coordinate with other IFM shops and Campus Departments to facilitate work.

Stay up to date and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job, including Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Comply with all UWT and IFM policies and procedures.

Support all management directives and the vision and values of IFM

Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.

Provide excellent customer service through effective, courteous and professional interactions with clients, colleagues and the campus community.

Minimum Requirements:

Physical strength to do required work AND one year of work experience which includes operation of power equipment such as tampers, jackhammers, trucks, and wheel tractors OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional:

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years' applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.

Demonstrated successful ability in taking direction, working well with others and as member of a team

Demonstrated excellent effective verbal and written communication skills

Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations.

Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent products

Working Conditions:

Work may require access to confined spaces and heights using approved safety precautions

Ability to safely work in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, ice, wind, etc.)

Ability to lift and move heavy material may be required

Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job

Regular and predictable attendance is required
