About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

This Specialist position will assist the Vegetation Management Senior Specialists and Managers in the oversight of C&OS contract vegetation operations. This position will be based out of the Tulare Service Center and may perform work in the Big Creek, San Joaquin Valley, Bishop/Mammoth, Tehachapi, Kernville, and Ridgecrest Districts. The Specialist will help to ensure compliance to all rules, regulations, and standards for SCE's vegetation management programs including:

  • Annual Compliance

  • Dead, Dying, and Diseased

  • Bark Beetle

  • Weed abatement

  • Pole and Tower Clearing

  • Hazard Tree Management Program

  • Right-of-way clearing

  • Management of VM's contribution to wildfire mitigation

  • Other vegetation management activities as requested and assigned

Typical Responsibilities:

Assist the Vegetation Management Senior Specialists and Managers in:

  • Oversight of contract tree crews for work management

  • Interaction with governmental agencies and industry trade organizations

  • Providing technical support to SCE contractors

  • Performing QA/QC reviews of contract work

  • Responding to County, City and homeowner requests and inquiries

  • Supporting district work order assignments

  • Performing contractor field safety reviews

  • Performing tree caused circuit interruption reviews for validation

  • Supporting storm restoration and contract coordination activities

  • Tracking and monitoring contract progress operations

  • Invoice approval

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience working in Utility Vegetation Management

  • Valid Driver's License.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification as an arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture

  • Experience in directly performing or supervising Vegetation Management activities

  • Knowledge of CPUC GO 95 Rule 35, PRC 4292 & 4293 and environmental habitat areas

  • Experience performing tree risk assessments

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point and Work Management Systems

  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Position will require up to 75% traveling out in the field throughout multiple districts within the SCE service territory.

The essentials * Two years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman. * Supervisory and/or team leadership experience. * Possess and be able to maintain a valid Driver's License. The preferred * Bachelor's degree is preferred. * Previous experience as an E-Crew Foreman. * Typically possess five or more years of combined experience performing and/or supervising activities related to the design, construction and maintenance, and/or scheduling activities associated with the electric distribution system. * Experience leading cross-functional teams or bargaining unit personnel including, applying the IBEW collective bargaining agreement. * Experience overseeing or executing medium to large construction projects with underground and overhead construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical distribution system and associated regulatory requirement, including environmental regulations, safety policies and procedures, and hazardous waste management. * Experience reviewing work and leading the execution of work to ensure on schedule completion. * Ability to plan and prioritize projects, including managing multiple simultaneous projects and identifying/ allocating resources to ensure project timelines are met. * Experience applying GO 95, GO 128, GO168 and Accident Prevention Manual rules. * Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others by building strong working relationships with employees, adapting leadership style to a variety of employees, identifying developmental needs, and delivering coaching and mentoring. * Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal departments, customers, and union personnel.
