Public Works Division: Wastewater Opening Date: 08/14/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Description The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to conduct skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the infrastructure of the city's sewer system.

This job/class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Examples Of Duties Conducts CCTV wastewater inspections: operates a motor vehicle and sewer television equipment, truck video camera recorder, and related controls and cables used to inspect constructions, new installations, maintenance, and repair of the sewer lines. Inspects and maintains wastewater pump stations on a routine basis; conducts minor repairs to ensure proper function.

Conducts daily inspections and minor repairs to ensure the proper function of the equipment. Flushes lines as preventative maintenance: locates trouble spots such as cracked or broken tiles/pipes, offset joints, and/or blockages and determines if maintenance, repair, or replacement is required. Reviews the city and subdivision sewer system maps and engineering drawings to locate manholes and sewer lines.

Conducts inspections based on citizen complaints and requests from engineering staff. Uses power equipment such as pavement breakers, and jumping jacks. Work in all types of weather for sewer problems, and other emergency situations including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Requires six months of experience in utilities repair and maintenance or closely related experience. Prefer one year of experience in water and sanitary sewer construction and maintenance activities. Should have general knowledge of the safe and correct use of hand and power tools and equipment common to the work.

Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a CDL commercial driver's license, vehicle type B with N endorsement, and a good driving record. Requires Work Zone, Traffic Control, and Flaggers Certification.

Supplemental Information Hours: Monday

  • Friday, 6:30 a.m.

  • 3:30 p.m. Must be able to work in all types of weather for water breaks or sewer problems, emergency situations, etc., including nights, weekends and holidays as needed and will stand call with the crew during winter months for after hours emergencies. Selected candidates with an active CDL will receive a $2,000 bonus upon hire. (Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year) Selected candidates with an active CDL learner's permit will receive a $1,000 bonus upon hire. (Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year)
