Assist lab personnel with various testing and calibration techniques, including:
Assist NDT technicians in activities such as: Radiography and Dielectric Testing. Projects are typically located at fossil generating plants and natural gas pipelines along with other natural gas and electric generation facilities.
Assist Regulatory Compliance Testing Services (RCTS) personnel in air quality emission testing activities at generating plants and gas compressor stations. This work is often at high elevations outdoors and subject to variable weather conditions. This work will require the ability to carry test equipment up to 40 lbs. The work often requires standing for long periods of time and the ability to climb ladders & stairs.
Assist Equipment Performance Testing Services (EPTS) personnel with equipment setup and test data collection at generating plants and gas compressor stations. The work is either indoors or outdoors and typically in hot environments. This work will require the ability to carry test equipment up to 40 lbs. The work often requires standing for long periods of time and the ability to climb ladders & stairs.
Calibrate general purpose Measurement & Test Equipment (M&TE) using automated and semi-automated procedures and processes.
Assist in ground water sampling at the plants while on the water's edge. Also would be substation trained to take transformer oil samples.
Other duties as assigned.
Department Specific Criteria
The position is located at the Laboratory Services office at Consumers Energy's Jackson Trail Street Facility (the selected candidate must reside within 50 miles of this facility). The individual will be required to work on extended out of town assignments and must be willing to work significant overtime, often on very short notice, as necessary to meet job commitments. The position will require the individual to certify as an assistant industrial radiographer upon completion of training. This position involves work with high energy radioactive isotopes.
Requirements / Qualifications
High School Diploma OR GED.
Less than 1 year of applicable work experience.
Pass an Algebra aptitude test.
Must reside within 50 miles of Consumers Energy's Jackson Trail Street Facility.
Certification as an assistant industrial radiographer upon completion of training.

Produce detailed and complex engineering design drawings utilizing computer-aided drafting software within a confined time period supportive of a production oriented role.
Interpret substation equipment wiring diagrams and SCADA point lists to appropriately test substation intelligent electronic devices and record the test results.
Operate a computer terminal and utilize necessary software applications.
Produce supporting engineering design documents through various computer applications.
Receive and support field calls to address questions with design packages and assist in troubleshooting.
Travel to company substations, power plants, HVD or distribution lines, field locations or customer facilities to visually inspect present status of facilities to support producing designs or to perform field tests to best determine equipment to be utilized in designs.
Have aptitude and ability to learn and perform the duties of the job including learning new designs reflecting new equipment.
Willing and able to follow instruction, assist in training of co-workers, and cooperate with other employees and customers.
