Non-Smoking
The City of Delray Beach is aNon-Tobacco Workplace. Entry level trainee work involving basic cleaning and maintenance of water and wastewater distribution systems. Work is performed under close supervision. Position may require employee to operate motor vehicle and power driven equipment. Perform related work as required.
Essential Job Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Perform routine maintenance on water and wastewater distribution systems,
Install and repair water distribution, sanitary sewer lines, lift stations, manholes, and all related facilities.
Dig and refill ditches, load dirt and construction materials.
Perform lawn maintenance activities.
Operate light power equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma;
Two (2) years of experience in heavy manual labor and the use of hand and light power tools.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the water and wastewater field. Ability to communicate verbally. Basic Mathematical skills. Physical condition, strength and agility commensurate with the demand of the position, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Ability to work rotating shifts as applied.
It is the policy of the City of Delray Beach that persons having a CDL and participating in activities regulated by DOT are subject to drug testing and alcohol testing. The Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 requires alcohol and drug testing of safety-sensitive employees in aviation, motor carriers, railroad, and mass transit industries. Provisions of this policy are based upon said Act and the relevant federal regulations applicable to the Act. As a condition of employment, The City of Delray Beach reserves the right to require all employees having a CDL and performing safety-sensitive activities regulated by DOT, to submit at any time to drug and/or alcohol testing to determine the presence of prohibited substances.

A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
