Job Summary

  • Assists with minor repairs

  • Interpret work orders and assist with accessing required parts and tools to perform work

  • Assist with testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the work meets manufacturer's specifications and legislated regulations

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background

  • Must be able 18+ years of age

  • Must be able to use hand tools and test equipment under the direction of trained mechanics and/or Shop Management

  • Must possess the strength and stamina required to work in awkward positions

  • Physical activities include: walking, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing a ladder, etc.

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must possess an acceptable MVR

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills

  • Must be self-starting and organized

  • Must possess strong work ethic and good problem solving skills

  • Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct

  • Must be able to interact well with others

  • Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting

  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities

  • Must be able to lift approximately 70 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job

  • Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

VIEW JOBS 4/16/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-15T00:00 Description This class maintains and operates complex heavy motor equipment, machinery and vehicles and is responsible for routine maintenance procedures, safe and effective operating, loading and storage of the equipment. This class specialized equipment, machinery and vehicles, such as heavy construction vehicles, bobcats, loaders, bucket trucks, ladder trucks, dump trucks, tandem trucks, crew cab trucks with trailers, snow removal equipment, pressure sprayers, light paving equipment, hand grinders, heavy rollers, jackhammers, specialized painting equipment, mowers, grades, ditch diggers, etc.. The incumbent uses the equipment to install or remove structures/materials, make equipment and infrastructure repairs, service roadways and grounds, prepare materials for installations, conduct tests to determine maintenance needs. Incumbents consult work orders as well as other documents in carrying out assignments. This class also may perform basic and preventative equipment maintenance. Incumbents assigned to cemeteries maintain grounds-keeping and burial equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and backhoes; repair and maintain buildings and water lines in cemeteries; operate backhoes to assist at funerals; overhaul engines; assist in maintaining work records and repair orders; and operate or issue vehicles to grounds maintenance crews. Incumbents assigned to road maintenance operate heavy construction vehicles, such as backhoes, pay loaders, sweepers, chemical trucks, etc.; provide fuel to vehicles at remote sites; respond to after-hours emergencies; and perform snow and ice removal. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion. Supervision Exercised/Received: * Exercised: This classification typically does not supervise other employees but may serve as a lead worker. * Received: This classification typically reports to a supervisor or superintendent. * Note: Other reporting relationships may apply. Example of Duties The Department of Public Utilities - Stormwater/Collections Utility Division seeks qualified candidates to fill multiple Equipment Operator, Senior for multiple shifts and locations. Duties include, but are not limited to; * Operating machinery, equipment and vehicles; managing equipment and vehicles; maintaining and/or ensuring vehicles and equipment receive needed maintenance; performing the duties of an Equipment Operator, and as needed/requested, attending training at the next level of Principal Equipment Operator in preparation of advancement or promotion; consulting work orders, route lists, maps, charts and/or blueprints in executing work; following safety protocols; * Maintaining and repairing equipment, roads, structures, grounds, parks, playing fields, and other facilities; and ensuring grounds are safe and meeting required standards, as assigned; * Assisting with special events and emergency situations; * Conducting supply inventory for area of responsibility; managing supplies; * Operating equipment to include but not limited to specialized equipment, machinery or vehicles such as: heavy construction vehicles, Bobcat W/Skid Loader bucket-trucks, backhoes, Sewer Vactor Trucks, Dump trucks (light and heavy), tandem trucks and Crew Cab Trucks with trailers and/or snow removal equipment, pressure sprayers, light paving equipment, hand grinders, walk behind grinders, boom truck, compressor dump trucks, Heavy Roller (greater than 4000 lb.), jackhammers, specialized excavation equipment, slope mowers, and tractor mounted graders, front-end loaders, ditch diggers, and other equipment as assigned; * Maintaining equipment, machinery, or vehicles in good working order.; * Observing established protocols and procedures for safe operation and storage; * Performing routine maintenance; * Reporting damaged or unsafe equipment to supervisor.; * Loading, transporting, and delivering refuse construction materials, supplies or equipment; * Establishing safe work zones by erecting barricades and signs; * Directing traffic; * Maintaining grounds through cutting grass; raking and shoveling various materials used to restore work sites; * Repairing minor masonry and concrete structures; * Operating various trucks and equipment, specialized vehicles and various types of cleaning equipment; * Assisting in installation and repair of sewer pipes and structures; * Loading, transporting and delivering supplies; * Identifying and locating connections; * Evaluating conditions at main connections and manholes, types of pipe, grease deposits, debris, foreign objects, roots, cracks, corrosion, infiltration, bad joints, broken pipes and other abnormal conditions that might exist. This position is considered an Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.
