Utility Maintenance Crew Chief

Why This Role is Valuable

The purpose of this position is to facilitate continuing water and sewer services to the City by providing skilled services. This is accomplished by supervising the water and wastewater utilities work crews. Other duties may include assisting the supervisor, maintaining equipment, assisting the public, providing process improvement feedback to employees and interacting with other City employees and citizens. This position provides direction to other employees.

How You Add Value

• Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Assists the supervisor by coordinating personnel and operational activities and assigning work responsibilities.

• Maintains water and sewer systems by performing the general maintenance and repair of the systems, assisting with the installation of new water and sewer lines and following proper safety precautions.

• Maintains equipment by monitoring, observing and inspecting equipment for malfunctions or leaks, diagnosing needed repairs and maintaining quality assurance and high performance of equipment.

• Assists the public by responding to and resolving difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints and responding to emergency situations related to the maintenance and operations of the City's utilities.

• Advises and directs employees by identifying opportunities for improving delivery methods and procedures and informing personnel about proper utilities maintenance practices and procedures.

• Regular attendance required.

What You Bring to the Role

• High School Diploma/GED

• 3 years increasingly responsible utility maintenance or public works experience

• Valid Texas commercial driver's license (CDL)

• Valid Texas Class A CDL License required.

• Current possession of, or the ability to obtain Class C Water Distribution and Class II Wastewater Collection within one year of hire.
