Job Summary:

Operates small trucks, dump trucks, and miscellaneous small equipment. Performs manual labor involving water distribution and wastewater collection systems maintenance and repair. Performs various other tasks as assigned.

Typical Duties:

  • Assists in the construction, repair, and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Includes working in excavations to set water and sewer pipe, valves, fittings, concrete blocking, and other appurtenances.

  • Drives pickups, 1-ton trucks, and sump trucks. Operates small equipment and hand tools.

  • Performs minor repairs, adjustments, and maintenance on equipment and vehicles.

  • Performs on call duties involving water and wastewater facilities.

  • .Has schedule flexibility and proficiency to work after-hours on a rotating basis, as assigned. Coverage of these additional after-hours duties is compensated for by additional overtime pay and/or compensatory time, according to the approved pay schedule for these assignments.

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required;

  • Must have a minimum of one (1) years experience working in construction or a related field;

  • Must obtain a Class "D" water or wastewater certification per TCEQ regulations within one (1) year;

  • Must have some knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small equipment and hand tools;

  • Ability to read gauges and record figures accurately;

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervision.

Work Environment:

This position primarily involves working in a field environment. Will be working around heavy construction equipment. May be exposed to odors and fumes while working with chemicals. Will be exposed to adverse/inclement weather conditions while working outside. May work variable hours and or weekends.

Physical Condition:

Must be able to bend, climb and squat to perform duties. Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have dexterity with fingers and hands to operate hand tools and small equipment. Must be able to smell odors and fumes. Maintain physical condition necessary for walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely.

Miscellaneous Information

The City of Granbury offers a competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience. The city participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a city matching ratio of 2:1. The city pays 100% of the employee's medical insurance and term life insurance. Full-time employees receive 40 hours of vacation at 6 months, then accrue each pay period based on the number of years employed up to 160 hours. 48 hours of Sick leave at 6 months, then accrue 3.70 hours each pay period. Full-time employees are eligible for 14 paid holidays. A full range of insurance benefits is also provided to full time employees. The city also provides a 9/80 work schedule where employees have every other Friday off.
