Position Summary

This position functions as a Civil Engineer within the Technical Services Section of the North Central Region performing the highest degree of independent discretion and judgment on the most complex utility issues. This position serves as the Region's primary resource of advanced engineering level analysis and decision-making expertise regarding utility coordination and permitting.

In the improvement design and construction phases of a project, this position uses engineering knowledge to oversee the relocation, modification, and adjustment of utility facilities and permitting. This position performs quality control and utility engineering oversight of the utility program associated with the regional transportation improvement program. This position applies a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the areas of design (to include highway and utility), real estate, utility conflict identification and resolution, utility compensation, schedules and budgets, and construction associated with highway improvement projects.

This position serves as an engineering resource and advisor to regional managers, supervisors, project managers, project leaders, project development staff, consultants, and utility coordinators in resolving utility, design, and construction conflicts.

Salary Information

The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $79,269 to $97,448, plus excellent benefits.

The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $88,296 to $106,808 plus excellent benefits. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License.

A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This position requires the ability to travel independently throughout the region to attend meetings and required trainings.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications

Minimum requirement: Upon application, candidate must have graduated from an ABET accredited program with a 4-year degree (or master's or PhD) in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field, OR possess an Engineer in Training (EIT) credential, OR possess a Professional Engineer (PE) credential, OR have documentation from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services that deems the individual a professional engineer and qualified to engage in professional engineering practices.

A minimally qualified candidate will also have at least 4 years of professional engineering experience in design, construction, or maintenance of transportation projects after receiving a degree from an ABET accredited University.

In addition to the above:

To be eligible at the Advanced level, candidates must have a valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
