Job Description and Duties

Under close supervision of the Utility Craftsworker (UCW) Supervisor and the guidance of a journeyman, the UCW Apprentice assists and receives training in the operation of heavy and light construction equipment, carpentry, electrical, welding, herbicide application, and skilled work in the civil maintenance of facilities associated with the State Water Project. The incumbent must possess strong organizational and good interpersonal skills. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License.

Special Requirements

This is a sensitive position and is subject to substance abuse testing set forth in California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) Regulations 599.960 - 599.966.

Once a Class A driver's license is obtained then this safety-sensitive position is subject to Federal DOT alcohol and substance abuse testing requirements (including random testing) as set forth in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Pre-employment drug testing is required.
