The City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department, now also known as Raleigh Water, provides water and sanitary sewer services to roughly 198,000 metered customers and a service population of about 600,000 people in Raleigh, Garner, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell and Zebulon areas. Our mission is to provide safe, sustainable water services for our customers while protecting public health and contributing to the economic, environmental, and social vitality of our communities.
This position functions as the primary crew leader and camera equipment operator heavy for the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Sewer Inspection Program within the Sewer Maintenance Division. Crews within this program are tasked with using remote controlled robotic cameras to visually inspect the condition of sewer mains, manholes, and other underground structures within the sewer collection system.
Scheduled working hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. This position carries with it an on-call requirement which includes 8 hours of paid standby time per on-call week, plus the potential to earn overtime pay at 1.5 times the normal hourly rate for hours worked over 40. This position will report to the Lake Woodard Annex, located at 3324 Lake Woodard Dr, Raleigh NC 27604.

Serves as lead worker by assigning work and monitoring work completion. This role may fill in for the assigned Utilities Specialist, Senior (Field Supervisor) during absences or vacancies
Transports equipment, plans routes, and sets up work areas for safety and operational efficiency. Setup/teardown of traffic control work zones and various safety equipment including trench boxes, hydraulic shoring, and confined space equipment
Utilizes robotic camera equipment to visually inspect sanitary sewer mains, manholes, and other appurtenances
Operates and maintains assigned equipment and tools. Performs inspections to ensure safe operating conditions, routine repairs and/or replacement of parts, cleaning and preventative maintenance, and monitors need for replacement or advanced repairs
Plans, monitors and reviews inventory, resources and materials needs. Initiates orders for resources based on requirements and may work with contract workers and trade specialists by scheduling and coordinating repairs and maintenance services
Responds to customer generated calls and investigate reports of issues to determine appropriate corrective actions
Supports the City's emergency response in the event of inclement weather, including debris cleanup after severe storms or snow and ice response for Division facilities
Documents work progress, completes electronic work orders, and monitors work to ensure applicable rules and regulations are followed
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and four years of maintenance experience, or experience related to the fields listed below as shown:
Construction: grading, storm drain, site work, builder, plumber, any utility construction (including fiber installation), road construction
Landscaping: installer, maintenance, irrigation
Mechanic: heavy equipment, HVAC, hydraulic systems
Farming: manual labor, equipment operating
Moving Company: labor, truck driver
General Municipal Worker: utility inspector
Tech School Student: mechanical
Firefighter: full or part-time
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Work involves driving small to medium size pickup trucks/box truck and may be required to drive tandem dump truck during severe weather or other natural disasters

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise. Work is conducted in a crew setting primarily in an outdoors environment in close proximity to heavy equipment, vehicle traffic, and open excavations.
