Job Description
Performs intermediate technical work inspecting utilities projects for specification compliance; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Assistant Director of Engineering.
Effective 7/1/24 the hiring range for this position is from $27.87/hour to $38.33/hour based on experience.
Effective 7/1/24 the full salary range for this position is $27.87/hour to $48.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
Examples of Duties
Inspecting utility construction projects; assisting contractors to understand and meet county procedures and job specifications; preparing inspection reports.
Inspects water, sewer and related construction projects of contractors for compliance with plans, specifications and standards;
Keeps progress records;
Ensures compliance with erosion and sediment control regulations;
Informs contractor of deviations or errors;
Takes samples of materials for testing of quality;
Conducts tests in field;
Keeps records of tests;
Inspects street cuts made for utility purposes;
Inspects material received by contractors at project site to determine whether or not it meets the required specifications;
Maintains as built data;
Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and equipment relating to public utilities construction; general knowledge of engineering plans, specifications and drawings; ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress; ability to detect errors in construction projects; ability to establish effective working relationships with County officials, contractors, property owners and others to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards; ability to maintain accurate records.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in a sub-professional engineering or construction work in the area assigned.
