This role is responsible for coordinating and managing engineering projects related to the water treatment plants.

About this Opportunity

Coordinates and supports a variety of projects and programs for the Utilities Department as assigned.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with and manages activities related to compliance with EPA's Lead and Copper Rules and future emerging contaminants regulations.

  • Performs analysis, data input, and quality control for the ongoing development of the City's Service Line Inventory.

  • Communicates with external entities including Iowa DNR staff and regulatory and state revolving fund loan staff.

  • Manages the private hydrant maintenance program and issues related permits.

  • Manages annual contracts for the Water Distribution team including hydrant painting program, valve and hydrant replacement program, annual material quote, potholing contract, and service line repair contract.

  • Prepares Council resolutions, other official documents and contract documents, processes contract amendments and purchase orders, and tracks documents through the approval process.

  • Coordinates bidding activities.

  • Recommends and implements departmental electronic file structures and document storage practices.

  • Assists with grant applications.

  • Gathers, prepares, and coordinates correspondences, reports, lists, files, and other documents.

  • Coordinates, schedules, and prepares agendas for meetings related to annual programs and contracts; records meeting minutes and creates and distributes written minutes.

  • Monitors and tracks required insurance documents.

  • Performs related work as required.

Required Education and Experience

  • A minimum of two years completed relevant college-level coursework or an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in construction, project management, or a related field. Additionally, 3 to 5 years of experience in program, project, or event coordination and management, or process improvement.

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience. (i.e., one year of relevant experience may substitute for one year of education.)

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent data analysis and data manipulation skills in Microsoft Excel.

  • Knowledge of other database software(s) such as Microsoft Access and/or GIS.

  • Education or experience within the water distribution sector.
