The Maintenance and Utilities Services Department provides maintenance and repair for campus facilities. This includes the maintenance and operation of utility systems, plants, and water and electrical distribution systems. The department also manages and monitors all internal utility meters and is responsible for building control systems and infrastructure equipment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Final level in a three-level career progression. The Utilities Controls Technician Ill may serve as the Team Lead for three or more employees. The technician is responsible for operation and maintenance of complex utilities control systems. These systems include energy management, boiler & hot water, chilled water, domestic water, sanitary, and plant monitoring instruments. The technician also assists with directing and coordination of projects related to metering and control systems. The technician may also be responsible for directing and supervising contractor activities occurring on campus as requested by supervisor Begin and complete Level Three Instrumentation curriculum and demonstrating competency therein.
This position requires knowledge gained through prior experience with control systems. Performs a variety of complex tasks related to control systems. Works under general supervision while relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Primary job functions require exercising independent judgment. Exercises a wide degree of creativity and latitude. This position also requires skill in analyzing system malfunctions, determining, and carrying out appropriate repairs. Spends less than 50% of work time on supervisory, managerial, or leadership duties. This position's primary responsibilities include operation and maintenance of complex systems. These systems include energy management, environmental controls, boiler & hot water, chilled water, domestic water, sanitary, and plant monitoring instruments. Maintenance responsibilities include but are not limited to installation, programming, troubleshooting & testing, calibrating, repairing of instrumentation & control systems. Knowledgeable in the processes and safety measures in various skilled craft area(s). Possesses Expert knowledge of concepts, practices, and processes in control systems. Responsibilities also include maintenance and upkeep of associated software. This position is responsible developing solutions and reporting any complex or unusual maintenance problems to the Supervisor. Traveling to other campuses is required. This position requires intermediate customer service skills. This job requires physical abilities such as trunk strength, manual dexterity, and wrist-finger movement to perform the essential functions of the position. Working conditions include exposure to hazardous materials and fumes, elevated areas {i.e., over six feet), varied weather conditions, dirty environments, noisy environments, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. This position is identified as "Essential Personnel" and may be required to report to work during emergencies or when the university is closed. This Position may be required to participate in On-Call rotation.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
High school diploma or equivalent. Four (4) years of appropriate experience in the procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining building automation systems (BAS), and accessories; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Valid Florida Class E operator (driver) license.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent and six years of appropriate experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Competent. responsive, helpful, and self-starting team player with the ability to learn and develop new skills. Compliance with operational policies and safe work practices. Ability to lead a team, provide coaching and/or mentoring to a group or individual. Ability to exercise creativity, latitude, and critical thinking. Oral and written communication skills. Using and maintaining hand and power tools. Familiarity with industry standards and technical expertise. Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office suite and other industry standard software.
