Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking a talented and experienced UX/UI Designer with strong coding skills to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating intuitive and engaging user experiences and be proficient in front-end development. This role will collaborate closely with developers, project managers, and stakeholders to design and implement user-centric digital solutions that enhance the experience of our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • User Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct user research to understand user needs, preferences, and behaviors

  • Analyze and interpret data to inform design decisions and improve user experience

  • Create user personas, user journeys, and wireframes to communicate design concepts

  • UI/UX Design:

  • Design and prototype user interfaces for web and mobile applications

  • Develop visually appealing and user-friendly designs that align with Missouri S&T's brand guidelines

  • Ensure designs are responsive and accessible across various devices and platforms

  • Front-End Development:

  • Implement UI designs using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and common libraries and frameworks

  • Collaborate with back-end developers to ensure seamless integration of front-end and back-end components

  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability

  • Testing and Iteration:

  • Conduct usability testing and gather feedback to refine and improve designs

  • Iterate on designs based on user feedback and testing results

  • Ensure the final product meets user needs and business objectives

  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including developers, project managers, and stakeholders

  • Communicate design ideas and prototypes to stakeholders and gather feedback

  • Stay updated on the latest UX/UI trends, tools, and technologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Technology, Journalism, Art, Graphic Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field is preferred

  • Experience writing technical documentation and reports including, but not limited to the following: needs assessment procedures and reports, usability testing plans and reports

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar

  • Strong coding skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript

  • Knowledge of responsive design and accessibility standards (WCAG)

  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A portfolio demonstrating your UX/UI design and front-end development work

  • Familiarity with CSS preprocessing (e.g. Sass, SCSS)

  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git)

  • Experience with CMS usage and administration (e.g. WordPress, Drupal)

  • Experience with usability testing tools and methods

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,223 to $70,880 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Missouri provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your bottom line.
