About the Team: Our IT team's mission is to push the boundaries of technology with the intention of going above and beyond to aid stores and customers and deliver timely solutions to benefit all members of Grocery Outlet. About the Role: The Director of User Design and Experience (UX) is a visionary leader responsible for shaping and elevating the user experience across all our products and services. This individual will lead a high-performing team of designers driving innovation in user-centered design practices and ensuring that user needs are at the forefront of every product decision. This person will report to the VP of Architecture Engineering & Design.

Responsibilities Include:

• UX Strategy & Vision: Establish and lead the overall UX vision and strategy, aligning it with the company's business goals and market opportunities.

• User Research & Insights: Drive a culture of user research, leading and overseeing the development and execution of user research activities (e.g., user interviews, usability testing) to gain deep understanding of user needs, behaviors, and pain points.

• Design Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of UX designers, user researchers, and content strategists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

• Design Thinking & Process: Champion the adoption of a user-centered design process throughout the product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch and iteration.

• Product Experience & Interaction Design: Oversee the creation of intuitive, engaging, and user-friendly user interfaces (UI) and user experiences (UX) for all products and services.

• Design System & Standards: Establish and maintain a comprehensive design system that ensures design consistency and efficiency across all product offerings.

• Accessibility & Inclusivity: Champion accessibility and inclusivity principles, ensuring that our products are usable by everyone, regardless of their abilities.

• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, marketing, and other teams to ensure a seamless user experience across the entire product lifecycle.

• Metrics & Measurement: Define and implement key UX metrics to measure the success of design solutions and user experience initiatives.

• Industry Awareness: Stay current with the latest UX trends, technologies, and best practices, continuously seeking opportunities to improve and innovate.

About The Pay:

• Base Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000 Annually

• Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.

About You:

• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in user experience design, with a proven track record of leading and mentoring design teams.

• Demonstrated expertise in user research methodologies, user-centered design principles, and interaction design best practices.

• Strong understanding of design systems and their implementation.

• Experience and passion for accessibility and inclusive design.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

• Ability to lead and inspire a creative and high-performing team.

• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Experience in a technology-driven and fast-paced environment is highly desirable.

• Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, or related field preferred.
