Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D; lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.

The Daydream team is seeking a full time, experienced electronics technician. You are proficient in the following areas: fine-pitch SMT hand assembly and rework (0402, and 0.5mm pitch BGA and QFN), soldering and hot-air rework, use of a zoom microscope, flux removal, PCB assembly according to high-reliability standards (IPC-A-610 Class 3, JSTD-001), and ESD handling precautions. You have knowledge of and use of basic electrical test equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, etc.) and ability to read schematics is required.

The Google Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality team is a fast moving group of engineers, designers, and research scientists tasked with building the foundations for great immersive and augmented reality apps and prototyping novel, delightful user experiences. We are focused on making virtual reality accessible to millions of people through mobile devices, and its scope continues to grow and evolve.


  • Complete SMT rework of assembled PCBs and Hand assembly of prototype PCB

  • Handle component procurement and general lab maintenance

  • Do inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of PCBs

  • Manage box-level assembly of electronic systems

  • Complete cable and wire-harness assembly


Minimum qualifications:

  • Up-to-date certification to IPC-A-610 and/or JSTD-001
  • Soldering experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • BS or technical degree in Electronics

  • Background or experience in: Optical and opto mechanical assembly, Contract manufacturing, Consumer electronics assembly and test, Research and development labs

  • Attention to detail and ability to precisely follow written and oral assembly instructions

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and a willingness to learn
