The Swim Coach position at the Greater Austin YMCA is the cornerstone of our community's pursuit of excellence, camaraderie, and personal growth. We are currently seeking a USA Swimming Coach. The coach will work Monday through Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with occasional weekend meets. Apply today!

How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)

  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

  • Conduct regular swim clinics focusing on stroke technique, starts, turns, and other aspects of competitive swimming.

  • Design and lead pool and land training sessions to improve swimmers' strength, endurance, and overall performance.

  • Provide individualized feedback and instruction to swimmers to help them achieve their goals and improve their skills.

  • Collaborate with other coaches to plan and coordinate practice schedules, meet entries, and team events.

  • Maintain a safe and positive training environment, ensuring all YMCA safety guidelines and protocols are followed.

  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff members to provide program updates, schedule changes, and feedback.

  • Attend swim meets as scheduled, providing coaching support, encouragement, and strategy to swimmers during competition.

  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of swimmers, promoting the swim program within the community and YMCA membership.

  • Stay current with trends and developments in competitive swimming, attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions as needed.

  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.

  • Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.

  • Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise

  • Previous experience as a swim coach, preferably in a competitive swimming environment.

  • Certification as a USA Swim Coach or equivalent credential highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of swim training principles, stroke mechanics, and competitive strategies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire swimmers of all ages.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate team practices and events.

  • Passion for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through the sport of swimming.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk and occasionally lift and/or move items including equipment and children. Must be able to remain alert, sit or stand for extended periods of time, hear noises and distinguish distress signals, scan all areas of the pool with clear vision, perform all physical tasks related to instructing and observing participants in proper stroke techniques, communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
