Purpose Statement The ideal candidate will be an experienced, versatile, and accomplished high school teacher who can teach a variety of courses, serve as a mentor to a small group of students, moderate a co-curricular activity, and participate in high school activities that support the divisional program. The candidate will be experienced in numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is academically rigorous as well as engaging, dynamic, differentiated, and communication-based.

During this exciting time of growth at SD, we are searching for well-rounded, versatile, team players who will ensure that our students acquire the essential skills to be successful in school, and in life. The Social Justice teacher will aim to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of social justice theories, concepts, and practices. Through critical examination of various social, economic and environmental issues, this course encourages students to analyze the root causes of inequality, inequity, and injustice in society and explore strategies for social change.

The course covers a range of topics, including but not limited to human rights, impact groups, criminal justice, food and water security, genocide, global warming, and intersectionality. The Social Justice teacher will teach needed skill development by making explicit connections between course content and the issues and concerns that face our students today. Students will engage with diverse perspectives, develop critical thinking skills, and gain the tools necessary to become active advocates for social justice.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related subject (social justice, ethnic studies, history, sociology, philosophy) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and recognition of the importance of cultural competence in a school setting, including a record of related professional development 3 years minimum previous experience teaching at the high school level Proficiency with technology Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in related subject or education; Single Subject Teaching Credential - related subject area (all states accepted) Previous experience teaching history, social justice, ethics, philosophy, or religion Previous experience coordinating service learning projects Previous experience working with international students Experience teaching with iPads Experience using Canvas or similar LMS

Comments and Other Information

Compensation $68,800 - $140,000 based on skills and experience, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/403b retirement plan.
