Our organization is expanding and we are looking to hire an experienced Materials Manager working out of our Gaffney, SC Plant. Summary/Objective

The Materials Manager oversees activities related to the purchase, receiving, inventory control, and shipping of raw and finished goods utilizing Core Molding's ERP system, and has multiple direct reports including Supervisor(s), and Material Planner(s), with overall responsibility for the entire Materials department personnel and responsibilities. This role also requires interfacing with suppliers and customers to manage shipments and returns.

  • Develop and deploy Lean material handling and inventory concepts including a supermarket and Kanban systems

  • Analyze schedules for production/MRO material needs.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure on-time delivery targets are achieved.

  • Manage inventory control of all raw, WIP, and FG.

  • Manage material control, obsolesce, inventory variance, cycle counting, and general material flow to support operations.

  • Maintain forecast information and compared customer EDI with capabilities and capacities.

  • Confirm and review the weekly customer releases.

  • Interface with customers through customer service.

  • Act as liaison with engineering, accounting, and manufacturing regarding process changes.

  • Recommend improvements to the ERP system for process enhancement.

  • Responsible for directing the scheduling, unloading, and storage procedures for all raw materials and work in process.

  • Maintain total inventory accuracy by supervising cycle counts and reviewing production records.

  • Attend daily production meetings and explain concerns regarding schedules and shipping requirements.

  • Responsible for continuous improvement in the shipping and receiving area as well as the material processes.

  • Responsible for keeping a clean and organized receiving, storage, and shipping area driven by a 6S culture.

  • Plans and coordinates work, trains and motivates, monitors, and evaluates the performance of associates; ensures their ability to safely operate material handling equipment to move materials to and from storage configurations; counsels, records, and disciplines as necessary

  • Ensures all materials received are correctly stored in the supermarket area or taken to the line within 24 hours of receipt

  • Participate in Inventory Accuracy analysis or improvements

  • Ensures that employees are following the systems related to IATF 16949 and ISO-14001:2015 properly

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all transactions are made correctly and on time for shipping and receiving.

  • Maintain clean and organized yard (including activity to call in trash dumpsters),

  • Control forklifts PMs and repairs to ensure no significant issues

  • Drive 6S culture with all forklift drivers

  • Participate in monthly/quarterly physical inventories

  • Ensure all material handlers and forklift driver operators follow safety rules (speed limits, usage of PPE, fill out checklists for forklifts).

  • Perform daily touchpoint/stand-up meetings with team members.

  • Maintain forklift checklists, including proper storage of the completed forms.

  • Keep production running by having all materials received and stored in the supermarket area on time,

  • Make sure all materials are shipped & received correctly and on time in CMS (transactions).

  • Promote storage and supply using the concepts of FIFO.

  • Collaborate with team members to meet zero past due with our customers.

  • Meet goal of no-detention charges or any fees due to transportation being held or delayed in our docks.

Required Competencies

  • High level of proficiency in PC spreadsheets and ERP/MRP systems

  • Understanding of Materials Management

  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree or 3-5+ years of supervisory experience

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Teamwork and collaboration

  • Action-oriented with a sense of urgency
