Caterpillar Defense currently has an opening for a U.S. Ground Vehicle Senior Business Development Manager. Ideally, this position will be located in Peoria, Illinois but there is flexibility to be based remotely within the continental United States. As a U.S. Ground Vehicle Senior Business Development Manager at Caterpillar, you will be responsible for business growth strategy development and execution for Caterpillar Defense, primarily within the Department of Defense ground vehicle community. It will entail the construction of intimate relationships within the DoD and associated prime vendors and leverage the Caterpillar dealer network.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads Caterpillar Defense's Growth Strategy development, prioritization, and communication efforts, within the Department of Defense and with traditional Ground Vehicle Prime Contractors

  • Establish a strategic plan to bridge the gap from traditional, organic growth with current accounts as identified in the annual business plan and driving a structured growth plan to grow defense sales within the Department of Defense through major programs of record

  • Responsible for the translation of business unit goals and objectives into an actionable roadmap

  • Leveraging their background experience in the defense acquisitions process, develop a growth strategy within the US DoD ground vehicle community by aligning Caterpillar Defense technology and product solutions with end user and prime contractor requirements

  • Creatively approach the DoD market with technical solutions from the Caterpillar product portfolio which add value or capability to new or existing platforms in the ground vehicle space

  • Exercise business acumen to ensure Caterpillar Defense projects are integrated with other enterprise business activities, improvement projects and overall Caterpillar Inc growth strategy

  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating government and defense industry trends and customer drivers and developing a thorough understanding of funding streams in order to align Caterpillar Defense product development efforts with DoD operational needs

  • Leverage enterprise capabilities as well as the global reach of the Caterpillar Dealer network to drive growth opportunities at the both the enterprise and the dealer

  • Analyze market segments and external opportunities and coordinate with marketing, sales, finance, and contract administration functions to maximize revenue generation through the direct DoD and Prime Contractor sales as well as the dealer channel

  • Key Deliverables include revenue and profit growth strategy, prioritization of US Defense target segments, US and Global target opportunity development and project and relationship management

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • College or university degree

  • Project leader with a defense background who has business development or marketing and technical experience, thinks futuristically, and has a global outlook

  • 8+ years of defense industry experience

  • Requires strong global coordination and interpersonal skills to successfully gain engagement from the Department of Defense, Industry Primes, the Caterpillar enterprise and the global Caterpillar dealer network

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Military experience is beneficial

  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software and some financial analysis experience is desired

  • A self-starter and results oriented strategic thinker is critical in this role

  • Experience with Caterpillar products and dealer network is beneficial

  • Strong global coordination and interpersonal skills to successfully gain engagement from the Caterpillar enterprise and dealer network as well as DoD customers and potential industry partners
