Reuters are looking for a top-notch columnist to join our crack U.S. team. This is an opportunity to set the agenda on corporate finance, banking, markets, and policy in the world's largest capital market.

The best Breakingviews columnists combine strong reporting skills with analytical rigour. You will have a sophisticated understanding of companies and financial markets, razor-sharp analytical skills, and the ability to slice through complex concepts to deliver lively and engaging arguments.

Though writing experience is a distinct advantage, it's more important that you have deep curiosity about the inner workings of finance, a ready supply of original ideas, a high level of numeracy, and a desire to be the best at what you do.

About the Role

As U.S. Columnist for Reuters Breakingviews you will:

  • Research and write concise, punchy, and original views on business and finance which set the agenda for our global subscribers.

  • Develop and maintain contacts with senior executives, financiers, and policymakers.

  • Combine quick, authoritative takes on breaking news with original and deeply researched columns on the biggest topics.

  • Project your ideas in a variety of ways, including through arresting graphics, Breakingviews podcasts, videos, and participating in live events.

  • Work with our global team of columnists and editors to explore topical ideas and illuminate cross-border themes.

About You

As U.S. Columnist for Reuters Breakingviews you are likely to have:

  • A firm understanding of how companies and financial markets work, and a grasp of the basic concepts of corporate finance.

  • The ability to formulate strong, well-argued opinions under tight deadlines.

  • A base of high-level contacts among corporate executives, bankers, investors, and policymakers, and a talent for developing sources.

  • Experience of presenting your views to a sophisticated financial audience.

  • The highest standards of accuracy, editorial integrity, and professionalism.

  • Corporate finance knowledge with a focus on venture capital, tech, IPOs, and private funding a plus.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations:

Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $104,700 - $194,500. The base compensation range in other locations may vary.

This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
