Position Purpose The Urology Technician will provide clinical, procedural, and administrative support to the providers in an ambulatory care setting. Provides direct patient care with rooming, preparing patients for visit, as well as assisting physicians, APP#s, and RNs in procedures. # # # Nature and Scope The urology technician is responsible for assisting the provider in back office duties, including but not limited to: escorting the patient from the waiting room to the examination room promptly; taking vital signs as per guidelines; maintaining examination rooms# stock; documenting all patient communications; preparing lab specimens for processing; completing the necessary referral forms and obtaining authorizations for referrals and keeping records of same; scheduling patients for tests; placing and receiving phone calls in order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record; and administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies. # # Prepares patient for procedure including vitals, positioning, application of topical numbing, reviewing the procedure, safety precautions, and consent form. Provides pre and post care instructions directly to the patient. # Passes correct instruments, supplies and sutures as needed by the physician and assists the physician during the procedure when necessary. # Assists in procedures with skin retraction and post-procedure sterile gauze. # Prepares specimens for submission for pathological analysis. # Performs suture removal and/or bandaging, independently under the physician#s orders. # Prepares basic sterile packs and trays. Identifies and selects appropriate packs, trays, and accessory/specialty equipment for each procedure. Prepares instruments and equipment for all sterile procedures. # Prepares the physical procedure exam room, creating the sterile field, preparing supplies and instruments, urologic equipment, and maintaining sterile technique during the procedure. # Performs simple catheter placement and removal, void trials, bladder scans, urine analysis (UA), prepares biopsy samples, specific urodynamic related tasks (consent, rooming, start uroflow, provides instructions), cystoscopy, prostate biopsy, and vasectomy preparation. # Completes all necessary documentation. # Effectively communicates with patients regarding results and treatment as directed by provider. # Maintains proper upkeep and cleanliness of exam room, including stocking rooms, daily and monthly safety/quality duties (refrigerator checks, expired products, etc.). # Completes care coordination tasks including phone messages, managing provider inbox and escalates results to the provider, patient questions as appropriate, scheduling of appointments (as needed), in clinic procedure/medication prior authorization. # Performs/Assists Urodynamic procedures with the provider. # Communicates prescription refill requests to provider and calls in refills to pharmacy. Performs delegated clinical tasks with a written provider order. # Administers in office medication and intravesical instillations under the direction of the provider. # This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements. # The Urology Tech uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, physician office staff and other health care providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone interviews. # Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. # Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. # This position does provide patient care. # # # Disclaimer The foregoing description is not intended and should not be construed to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills and efforts or work conditions associated with the job. License(s): Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant required at time of hire Certification(s): Ability to obtain and maintain current AHA BLS/CPR required at time of hire. Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or EMT II certification required at time of hire. Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. # #
