Responsible for maintaining a high level of customer service while assuming responsibility for the efficient, productive, and professional operation of the front office which includes patient reception, scheduling of patients, collecting patient demographic, insurance information, collecting patient payments, completing check out, making follow up appointments, obtaining pre-certification for testing and completing referrals for patient care.

  • Promptly greets and acknowledges patients. Instructs patients in completion of medical history and patient information forms, and makes any necessary corrections to the patients account. Obtains accurate, complete demographic and insurance information and financial contract / consent on patient paperwork as well as interviewing patients and guarantors to obtain accurate information.

  • Responsible for identifying and collecting co-payments, co-insurances and past due account balances.

  • Explains financial requirements to the patient in response to patient questions on billing and insurance matters; refers questions regarding more complex insurance/benefits questions to Baptist Health billing office.

  • Responsible for accurately completing and interpreting insurance verification and benefits.

  • Scans all new patient or updated patient information into computer (including photo ID, insurance cards, referrals, and patient paperwork).

  • Reviews patient's insurance coverage and obtains referral for visit.

  • Maintains general knowledge of insurance plans accepted by Baptist Health.

  • Communicates with the patients in the lobby if the physician or provider is running behind schedule.

  • Responsible for maintaining a secure and accurate cash drawer. Responsible for daily balancing of cash drawer.

  • Schedules and coordinates referrals ordered by providers for radiology testing, specialty physician, lab and physical therapy visits.

  • Schedules follow up appointments.

  • Provide school / work excuse at check out.

  • Teamwork: cross train to help other team members.

  • If closing, stay until all patients have been checked out.

  • Participate in clinic meetings and activities as requested.

  • Maintains strictest patient confidentiality.

Successful candidate must have a minimum of one year of patient registration experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.

Requires knowledge of insurance rules and regulations, medical terminology, and computer scheduling systems.

Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers.

Must be able to type a minimum of 40 WPM.

Previous experience in a medical office is preferred.
