Summary:

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University is seeking an Urban Regional Extension Agent (UREA) for Community Resource Development (CRD) in Morgan County to identify and assess needs, provide learning opportunities, and build partnerships for urban and nontraditional audiences. This position will serve Morgan, Limestone, and Lawrence counties This UREA's work will focus on entrepreneurship, small business, and workforce development. The UREA will work as part of a CRD team led by the Community & Economic Development Specialist. The Specialist provides content, training, and direction for the UREA's work in the community.  The selected candidate will become a part of a small and growing team with direct opportunities to contribute to the direction and success of our program area. The position will be based in Morgan County with the potential to travel and implement programming throughout the state.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected UREA will work as part of a support team under the direction of the Extension Specialist and will provide:

  • Program Leadership + Delivery. Deliver quality programs on entrepreneurship, career development and other community development topics using a variety of education materials and methods to reach target audiences in Jefferson County. Work with Specialist to identify needs, opportunities and create impactful programs.

  • Community Outreach & Communications. Market the educational programs and activities using public service announcements, social media, news articles, fact sheets, brochures, flyers, and other innovative marketing tools.

  • Volunteer & Partnership Management. Recruit county volunteers, program partners, and collaborators; build and maintain valuable relationships for program implementation.

  • Program Assessment, Evaluation+ Impact Analysis. Participate in needs assessment, end-of-program evaluation, and distribution and collection of surveys, testimonials and other content that support both quantitative and qualitative evaluation of CRD programs. Under direction of the Specialist, the UREA will evaluate, analyze, and interpret program data to complete required organization reports and show program impact.

  • Fundraising and Program Support. Seek funding through grants, contracts, and program agreements with relevant primarily local and regional agencies and organizations.

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • A bachelor's in economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Education, Urbanism, or other related discipline. Degree may be in different areas, but candidate must provide a broad understanding of Community and Economic Development. 

  • A minimum of two years' experience with program coordination, delivery, or administration[CC1]  

  • Emotional and technical intelligence necessary for working in diverse communities.

  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours that can include nights and weekends is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

  • Travel up to 80% in assigned geographical area requires use of a reliable personal vehicle to conduct Extension business. Travel reimbursement is available.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfortable using online tools, software and systems.

  • Applicant must have a demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for working with urban and traditionally underserved audiences to deliver new and innovative programs.

  • Master's degree in relevant discipline preferred; If not completed at time of hire, the hired UREA will be required to obtain a master's degree within five years of successfully completing a probationary period.

  •     A strong manager of time and resources.

  •     Passionate about bringing positive social change, resources, and support to Morgan County and the state of Alabama
