Urban Planning Leader
We are looking for an Urban Planner Leader to join our New York Office to focus on urban and master planning assignments. You will join the leadership of a dynamic team of urban and transport planners with a focus on identifying and delivering innovative planning opportunities for a range of client types including Government, Transport Agencies, Our work seeks to uncover and strengthen the interrelationships between land use, transportation, economic and natural systems while being grounded in sustainable and resilient urban design. The scale of projects can vary from individual site planning assignments to large scale masterplanning along corridors or in larger districts. We work in partnership with architects, urban designers and urban planners but we also work independently leveraging the skills and talents of our Integrated Planning team in partnership with experts in resiliency, civil engineering, building designs and information technologists. You will support the Integrated Planning Leader and provide day-to-day project management leadership on Planning assignments, supervision for team members with responsibility for workflow, staff supervision, team and project finances and identifying and winning future work.
The ideal candidate will share our passion for creating great places and achieving sustainable planning outcomes that help 'shape a better world'. The candidate should have a minimum 8 years of experience and will have a strong background and understanding of the US planning system and will be familiar with the North-East US markets, including New York.
Conduct urban planning studies at a variety of scales. Potential projects include station area plans, downtown master plans, waterfront studies, site plans and site-wide master planning studies
Work in partnership with other teams supporting large infrastructure projects where planning is a needed component
Management of large, complex, long-term projects coordinating many different people/facilities/resources etc within tight time and budget constraints
Predicting and planning future resources
Setting and meeting agreed budgets; has input to the overall business operating plan
Responsible and accountable for client relations and deadlines (internal and/or external)
Represents Arup in the industry at high levels nationally and internationally, e.g. government think tanks, national policy and international conferences
Executes responsibilities as outlined in the firm's Quality Management System
Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation, including planning, leading and delivering technical information during public involvement and stakeholder meetings
Responsible for the recruitment, appraisal, performance, development, morale and motivation of specified staff
Developing a team of planners and engineers with a focus on innovative technical solutions
Contributing to the current and future overall performance of the group as part of the management team, including procuring and negotiating major contracts with customers/clients and/or suppliers/contractors
Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in engineering, planning or related field
Minimum of 8 years of experience in the planning sector with major project leadership experience
Familiarity with the US planning market with a potential client portfolio.
Familiarity with various analysis tools
AICP Certification is preferred
