Position Title: Upward Bound Math Science Academic Counselor

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Academic Counselor to join our Upward Bound Math Science program team. The Academic Counselor will be responsible for providing educational counseling and academic support to program participants.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for recruiting and providing academic counseling and services to

to program participants at target high schools. (Requires travel utilizing personal

vehicle.)

• Hold individual and group counseling sessions with participants at target schools

and during on-campus 6-week summer residential components with a some

evenings of supervision. (Requires supervision on some Saturdays and field trips.)

• Assist in the supervision and coordination of academic and non-academic

program components:

Communicate with instructors, school counselors, families of participants,

and community-based agencies to obtain information and further the

understanding of participant needs on behalf of project participants.

• Collect student data to create project participants' educational plans in

collaboration with UBMS Assistant Director, maintain student records, and assist

in completing components of an annual performance report.

• Attend program functions/workshops and conferences to improve delivery of

student services. (May involve overnight travel.)

• Assist in preparing newsletters and brochures with UBMS Assistant Director.

• Promote mission and goals of the UBMS program by attending some school

evening events and providing information about the program in collaboration with

the UBMS Assistant Director.

University work hours are Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m.

• 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m.

• 12:30 p.m.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Mathematics, Psychology, or Sociology fields.

• Able to travel, including overnight trips for training and/or student programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree

• Excellent written and verbal skills.
