QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as special needs teacher under existing regulations; preferably Intensive Special Needs
A Master's degree in special education preferred
Background and experience in the teaching of lower school students with special needs
Ability to accommodate and provide services to students with a range of abilities
Excellent behavior management skills; Crisis Prevention Institute certification preferred
Knowledgeable about developmental curriculum
Knowledgeable about Common Core
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Ability to conduct specialist assessments
Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to work with students identified by the Evaluation Team as having special needs; develop, in coordination with the Evaluation Team, individualized educational plans for the students approved to receive special needs resource services and implement these plans; provide diagnostic testing of students referred; submit written forms, time logs, data of students and reports required by the building special education administrator and/or the in-service coordinator; participate in all special education staff meetings and in-service trainings and school programs; provide annual re-evaluations of students currently placed in the program; submit purchase orders for supplies and materials required in the program; complete a yearly inventory of supplies and materials; and participate in all regular school functions at the direction of the building principal
SALARY: Based on training and experience according to the current salary schedule as negotiated by Unit A of the Methuen Education Association
