Position Description

With a world-class art studio, Burke’s seeks a dynamic educator to teach Upper School Art who can bring to life the mission of the school while working with students to further develop their artistic abilities in studio arts. All fifth- and sixth-grade students take art classes while seventh-grade students have Studio Art available as an elective. In eighth grade, the Upper School Art Teacher leads the Yearbook team. Additionally, the eighth-grade year culminates in a class-wide production of a musical that involves the whole Upper School Arts team. The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team, thinks creatively about curriculum and possibilities for innovation, and enjoys working with middle school-aged children. 

In addition to teaching art, responsibilities include advising a group of students to support social-emotional learning and strong learning habits.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching Upper School Art (Grades 5-8) & Advisory; this includes:
    • Reporting on student progress three times per year using checklist/narrative report cards 
    • Leading the student Yearbook team
    • Planning and supervising field trips relevant to curriculum
    • Preparing advisees for and supporting them in two student-led parent conferences per year
    • Accompanying advisees on outdoor education trips, both day and overnight
  • Communication: 
    • Effective communication with colleagues in support of a collegial and collaborative professional community
    • Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to foster a strong partnership with families
  • Collaboration:
    • Participate in regular team meetings including advising team as well as attending weekly faculty meetings and professional development days
    • Contribute to curriculum development and revision
    • Collaboratively support the set design and production of the eighth-grade musical
  • Supervisory duties as needed

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent, in a related field
  • Experience teaching, preferably at middle-school level

Compensation

Burke’s offers competitive compensation with a salary range of $70,000 - $145,000 based on years of experience plus advanced degree stipends.
