Position: UNIX Admin (W2 Visa Independent)
Location: Houston, TX 77073
Duration: 12 Months

Job Responsibilities:
Provide global production support for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, AIX in a distributed infrastructure.
Understanding and working knowledge of authentication and naming services, including NIS, LDAP with Kerberos, DNS, NTP, etc.
Automate monitoring solutions across multiple locations.
File system management (Linux LVM, CFS, NFS, and Samba).
Good troubleshooting skills with knowledge of key operating system concepts such as paging, swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts, disk management/partitioning, auto mounting etc
Fundamental skills with Volume Manager, File System and VCS Clusters
Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (for example Tk, Perl, ksh, sh, csh)
Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts, such as NFS, routing, troubleshooting network related issues
Involved in preparing the scripts and cronjobs for regular task automation
Require hands on experience with Virtual vCenter, VMtools, VM sizing & vMotion
Managing Linux security parameters (local accounts, Sudo, /etc/password management) as provided
Liaise with vendors to analyze crash dumps, or infrastructure problems Operational knowledge of key technologies, such RHEL 5/6/7, LVM, VCS/RHCS, Blade technology, SAN/NAS storage / HP, Dell, IBM Servers
Install and build operating system image on bare-metal and virtual servers as approved and present network and storage resources
Responsible for cloning a virtual machine provisioning from a VM template and installed agent software as the original
Liaise with application development team to optimize newly build/cloned OS parameters value for application/system optimal performance.
Participate in new technology integration like Directory services for UNIX, automated patching, vulnerability scanning & clustering technologies
Strong inter-personal and communication skills, capable of writing/contributing to technical knowledge articles Independent problem solving skills and effective time management

Required Skills:
Server imaging
RHEL, Solaris, AIX system administration.
Knowledge of VMWare ESX Knowledge of Volume Manager concepts and operations Knowledge in the standard ITIL processes.

The VISA department is the sole program designated by the President of the institution to sign all immigration petitions sponsored or filed on behalf of the institution. The Sr. Visa and Immigration Advisor protects the integrity of the institution by complying with state, local, federal and international agency regulations while facilitating the "international" dimensions of research, education, patient care and community service by providing highly professional advisory and administrative skills in assisting non-U.S. Citizens from diverse cultures by performing complex duties involving application for temporary and permanent visas. Key Functions: 1. Will provide professional expertise to international faculty, trainees, staff, volunteers, students administrators and administrative offices by: * Serving as clearing house for non-US citizens seeking or continuing employment with MD Anderson by providing appropriate visa clearances and communicate visa options written and verbally; * Processing all Form I-9 Employment Verifications for non-US citizens and updates as necessary; * Preparing and processing nonimmigrant visa applications for all nonimmigrant categories sponsored by the institution (e.g F-1, E-3, J-1, H-1B, TN) and serves as subject matter expert related to immigration and institutional policies and procedures; * Serving as the Alternative Responsible Officer for J program, Designated School Official for F-1 program; Trainee Program Liaison for J-1 Alien Physician and ECFMG, Designated Hiring Authority for H-1B; * Tracking all J-1 & J-2 exchange visitors and F-1 students sponsored by MD Anderson using the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and our internal database (ISSM); * Providing timely written notification to non-US Citizens, Departments, and Administrative Offices regarding passport and visa expiration status; * Managing emergency after business hours pager when assigned and according to departmental emergency pager procedures; * Conducting orientations and educational sessions as necessary; * Interfaces with Federal, State, and local government agencies (e.g. DHS, USCIS, ICE, CBP, DOS, US Embassies/Consuls, DOL, FBI, IRS, SSA, TXDPS, and UT System); * Will facilitate and participate in audits conducted by government agencies or local agencies; 2. Keep abreast of all visa restrictions and changes in federal, state, local and international regulations impacting the sponsorship and/or maintenance of immigration status/sponsorship by: * Participating in numerous webinars; * Attending conferences, workshops, seminars, training, etc. * Reading the Federal Register and other regulatory resources (e.g. Department of Labor, Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, NAFSA, and AILA) 3. Will be responsible for daily supervision of VISA Advisors and assistance by: * Providing assistance to employees with the management of difficult inquiries related to Departmental, Institutional and government policies; * Responsible for recruitment, supervising, training & development, coaching, and evaluating of VISA Advisors; * Reviews and assigns work activity and ensures compliance to all Departmental, institutional, and US government agency standards; * Audits VISA Advisor's records daily for quality assurance for accurate departmental reporting requirements and to ensure VISA Advisor processing meets departmental, institutional, and governmental policies; * Communicates policies and procedures of the department and institution to VISA Advisors formally and informally by written and/or verbal means; * Performs annual performance management for VISA Advisors; * Maintains accurate KRONOS records and provides documentation to employees who are not adhering to attendance guidelines with Associate Director/Executive Director approval. * Responsible for ongoing training and education of employees and offering one to one training to team members not meeting the department's minimum goals * Responsible for recruitment, supervising, training & development, coaching, and evaluating of VISA Advisors; * Reviews and assigns work activity and ensures compliance to all Departmental, institutional, and US government agency standards; * Audits VISA Advisor's records daily for quality assurance for accurate departmental reporting requirements and to ensure VISA Advisor processing meets departmental, institutional, and governmental policies; * Communicates policies and procedures of the department and institution to VISA Advisors formally and informally by written and/or verbal means; * Performs annual performance management for VISA Advisors; * Maintains accurate KRONOS records and provides documentation to employees who are not adhering to attendance guidelines with Associate Director/Executive Director approval. * Responsible for ongoing training and education of employees and offering one to one training to team members not meeting the department's minimum goals Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Humanities or Education.
