Position Summary:

The Business and Communications Coordinator supports the Director of University Relations in promoting a positive image for the institution and implementing integrated communication strategies aligned with institutional goals. Responsibilities include utilizing market research for decision-making, facilitating presentations on behalf of university administration for both internal and external constituents, monitoring budgets, coordinating staffing resources, supervising student employees, and providing leadership in University Relations initiatives, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director of University Relations in promoting a positive image of the University and implementing long-term, integrated business and communication strategies aligned with institutional priorities to enhance student recruitment, fundraising, and reputation enhancement goals.

  • Work directly with event management staff and other campus departments, utilize Accruent EMS events calendar and project management software to track and coordinate timely personnel and communication resources for the Office of University Relations and internal stakeholders, including managing project workflows.

  • Conceptualize, design, and facilitate keynote presentations on behalf of the University's senior administration. Collaborate with the senior leadership team to articulate and convey strategic messages and concepts through curated imagery and data points.

  • As directed, assist with editing and posting photographs, stories, marketing materials, and other communications on the University's website, e-newsletter, biannual Eastern Magazine, and external outlets.

  • Support the Director of University Relations in managing Eastern's marketing portfolio, working directly with vendors and stakeholders to allocate budgetary resources, track campaign statuses, maintain production schedules, and monitor asset deliverables.

  • Monitor operating accounts for accuracy and completeness, and work closely with the Director of University Relations to project, propose, and allocate expenses and budgets on behalf of University Relations initiatives.

  • Assist the Director with disseminating information via the University's alert notification system, during system tests, weather-related updates, and crisis communication.

  • Coordinate other public relations/marketing and communications activities and special projects as assigned which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.

Minimum of three years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations roles within a higher education setting. Minimum of three years of experience in supervising administrative, clerical, or student employees. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Proficiency in project management tools and software. Strong attention to detail and ability to coordinate complex events or projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advance degree or professional certificate in Business Administration, Communications, Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field. Experience using Webfocus software, Accruent EMS software, Cascade CMS software, or other relevant software utilized in higher education settings.

These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
