University Of Southern California-Gokoffski: Post-Doctoral Scholar

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Gokoffski Laboratory in the USC Roski Eye Institute in sunny Los Angeles, California. Our lab performs translational research whose goal is to develop technologies to restore vision to patients blinded by optic nerve diseases (glaucoma, optic neuritis, etc) and ambylopia. Specific areas of investigation include developing engineering and molecular strategies to drive: 1) target-specific RGC axon regeneration, 2) integration of transplanted RGCs into diseased retina, 3) optic nerve integration after whole eye transplantation, or 4) reactivation of visual cortex in animal models of amblyopia.

We are a high energy, dynamic lab with funding from NIH/NEI, DOD, NSF, and ARPA-H. Our lab is located in sunny and culturally diverse Los Angeles. Come join us for what will be a fun and memorable career-defining experience.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree with successful experience during graduate school (e.g. with publications and presentations). Applicants should have the ability to carry out independent research in relevant areas and have a strong interest in interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative research. Hands-on expertise in eye research, small and large animal survival surgeries, electrophysiology, molecular biology, and iPSC culture is preferred. Applicants with a concurrent background in electrical and biomedical engineering will be prioritized.

About the PI: Dr. Gokoffski is a surgeon-scientist with extensive experience training and mentoring high-school students, undergraduates, graduate students, medical students, postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and junior faculty in the fields of ophthalmology, developmental biology, and biomedical engineering.

She is passionate about teaching and fostering careers in academic medicine and translational research. There will be structured training activities and mentoring sessions for personal career development. Dr. Gokoffski is highly invested in the success of her all her trainees.
