Role Overview:

The University of Chicago Hillel is looking for a talented relationship builder and event planner to join our team as the Student Life Coordinator. The Student Life Coordinator will work directly with the Assistant Director and within the team of other programming staff both collaboratively and independently. The Student Life Coordinator should be passionate about connecting with students, getting out on campus and reaching new and uninvolved students, and empowering involved students to plan thoughtful programs for their peers.

  • Understanding the needs of college students and having a desire to interact with the diversity of students under the umbrella of the UChicago Hillel community.

What You'll Do:

  • Meet with Jewish students from different cohorts and demographics on campus to engage them, identify their interests, and help them get connected to current Hillel opportunities or create new spaces and mini communities for them on campus.

  • Map out a plan with the engagement student team to strategically build one on one relationships with students who are currently not engaged in Jewish life.

  • Create relevant meaningful Shabbat and holiday experiences that promote a welcoming, inclusive environment in conjunction with staff and students.

  • Provide support to student interns who are responsible for engaging their peers in Jewish life on campus.

  • Recruit for and promote the UChicago Hillel Birthright Israel trip.

  • Provide logistical support for all programs and support student-initiated programs.

  • Be attentive to student wellness and initiate and respond to students' needs.

  • Advise student leadership groups, sub-groups, and committees.

  • Utilize organization's social media strategy when program planning with staff and students.

  • Support students in creating marketing and promotional materials for their events.

What You'll Bring To The Job:

  • You'll have a team-oriented approach to work, a strong work ethic, proven experience thinking and acting strategically to reach goals, a sense of humor, and an ability to plan, improvise, and learn from situations when things don't turn out the way you thought they would.

  • Evening, weekend, Shabbat, and holiday availability/flexibility.

  • Confidence initiating and running programs, and comfortable asking questions.

  • Preferred 2-3 years of work experience in a related field.

  • Exceptional organization, leadership and communication skills.

  • A strong proficiency and interest in social media.

As The Student Life Coordinator, A Typical Day May Include:

  • Meet a student for a one-on-one conversation at a local campus coffee shop where you help the student plan a Shabbat dinner for their friends in their dorm or apartment.

  • Prepare the logistics and provide staff support for upcoming weekly programs in conjunction with students and staff.

  • Meet with your supervisor to strategize in making UChicago Hillel a more welcoming place.

  • Table on campus to promote an upcoming event, Jewish holiday, or simply to meet new students.

  • Meet with student leaders to help them organize a new event or initiative.

  • Design a creative engaging flyer for an upcoming Hillel event.

VIEW JOBS 4/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-11T00:00 Job Description: Position Summary: Reporting the Associate Director of Student Support Services, this hybrid Student Life & Events Coordinator/Student Support Counselor works within the Student Support Services department to deliver student life programs for the Online Campus of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. This position maintains collaborative working relationships with campus leadership, faculty, and other student-facing departments to support and coordinate programs, services, and activities consistent with the university's mission, strategic goals, and regulatory requirements. Major areas of responsibility include commencement, new student onboarding, and student organizations. This position will also serve as the primary student support counselor for a caseload of students, which requires extensive and substantive student contact, as well as maintaining accurate records. About the Department: The Student Support Services team is the single point of access for students, providing student-centered support services (ADA accommodations, international student services, etc.). Student Support Counselors administer a high level of customer service to ensure student persistence and success. Student Support Services team members work collaboratively within the office and with many other campus-wide constituent groups. Team members are expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and independent judgment, and to work hours consistent with the campus student populations' need for access to services, which will include occasional evenings and weekends. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Life & Events * Plan, manage, and direct all new student onboarding initiatives in collaboration with academic departments and admissions * Manage pre-orientation communications, including online Early Connect course enrollment and content * Assist with ground campus Student Life & Events staff to plan and facilitate commencement activities * Oversee Student Council and other student groups by managing annual group registration and budgeting, serving as Student Council advisor, providing appropriate training to student leaders, and supporting event planning and assessment processes * Maintain and disseminate accurate information about university policies and procedures pertaining to student organizations * Responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive campus-wide Student Activities program which may include social events, colloquia, trainings, and speakers Fiscal Administration * Oversee Student Life & Events budget and reimbursements processes, including student conference reimbursements * Prudently handle expenditures to meet institutional budget need Student Counseling * Administer advising services including registration, evaluation of program requirements, incomplete grades, student class activity, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and overall degree progress * Respond to calls and e-mails from incoming or current students on a daily basis by providing guidance regarding course work, policies, and support * Advise at-risk students through work/life balance, time management, and other circumstances to ensure successful completion of the course and program * Follow up on the progress of Academic Development Plans for students who do not meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements or who additional support * Collaborate with various student-facing departments such as Academics, Financial Aid, Admissions, and Student Accounts to ensure student success * Work with Office of the Registrar to ensure incoming and current students receive timely information and guidance regarding institutional policies, course registration, program completion, etc. * Advise students on support services and resources available to them through the school * Adhere to set internal, Federal, DOE, and affiliate policies and procedures, integrity and ethical standards * Perform other duties as assigned Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Experience with building or managing co-curricular learning programming * Ability to articulate the importance of co-curricular learning as an important component of holistic education * Excellent writing, interpersonal, and PC skills (Word, Excel, Power Point) * Equally capable of working independently or in a team, with strong organizational and time management skills * Ability to collaborate and communicate with all students regardless of educational level as well as all employees regardless of position/title * Experience/Comfort with utilizing technology in an educational setting preferred Position Qualifications: * 2-3 years of student activities, student engagement or similar experience * Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred * Experience within student-facing positions and/or Higher Education * Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by supervisor and student need The Chicago School of Professional Psychology offers a generous compensation and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work for a leader in the field of education.
