Position Summary Information

Duties

The University Assessment Coordinator reports to the Assistant Provost for Planning, Budgeting, and Assessment. This position will be responsible for administering annual assessment activities for academic and administrative units across the campus. The University Assessment Coordinator will work collaboratively with faculty members, staff members and administrators in academic departments and administrative programs, and staff members in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment assists and supports institutional planning, management, policy formulation, and decision-making, through the systematic collection, analysis, evaluation, and dissemination of valid and reliable information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • With guidance from the Assistant Provost for Planning, Budgeting, and Assessment, implement, review, and suggest improvements to the institutional outcomes assessment procedures.

  • Effectively communicate annual assessment cycle timelines to university stakeholders.

  • Collect and compile assessment data from across the institution.

  • Ensure that assessment data are entered into the university's assessment database in a timely manner.

  • Assist faculty and staff members to evaluate annual assessment results and document planned improvements.

  • Collaborate with faculty members, staff members, and administrators to identify and/or develop appropriate outcomes and measurement tools.

  • Identify topics for professional development and facilitate events that would strengthen the culture of assessment across the campus.

  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Assessment Council.

  • Assist the Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Reporting and the Assistant Provost for Planning, Budgeting, and Assessment to develop and distribute surveys.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.

  • Actively work towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers and internal faculty and staff.

  • Maintain "open door" to internal and external customers.

  • Identify opportunities for improvements to work practices and offer viable solutions for implementation.

  • Proactively engage in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.

  • Routinely practice self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.

  • Complete other tasks assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an education field.

  • Three years of classroom teaching experience.

  • Ability to communicate the value of student learning and administrative assessment to campus stakeholders.

  • Ability to perform data analysis including descriptive and inferential statistics.

  • Familiarity with student learning assessment databases.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education or in a quantitative field such as Business Administration, Business Analytics, Data Science, Educational Measurement, Math, Statistics or a related discipline.

  • At least three years of post-secondary teaching experience.

  • At least one year of assessment experience in a higher education setting.

  • Knowledge of SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation

  • Previous engagement with programmatic accreditation initiatives (e.g., ABET, ACBSP, CCNE)

  • Experience with Watermark Insights Planning & Self-Study.

  • Experience with Watermark Insights Student Learning & Licensure

  • Ability to perform statistical analysis using SPSS, SAS, R, or a similar application

Salary Band: P500

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty. Approximately 80% of the students are enrolled in at least one online course. The typical student is a working adult who commutes. The University offers undergraduate degree programs in Liberal Arts, Teacher Preparation, and Business.
